  • Warriors of Wood This Weekend

    Tooker Graduated
Don't forget, the contest that Ryan Nyquist teamed up with the San Jose Police Athletic League to produce is happening this weekend. Warriors of Wood will feature a wooden box jump rhythm section, which you can check out below in Ryan's latest video update of the course build process. Given Ryan's status as a BMX superstar, there will probably be more than a few special guests making appearances, so it's worth getting to this event if you're anywhere nearby. Marcus Tooker is flying out from Greenville, North Carolina, which is where he just graduated from East Carolina University, as you can see in the above photo, taken from the Osiris site.

Get all the event info for Warriors of Wood right here (they recommend pre-registering online if you plan on competing).

Here are a few upcoming events to get your ass to.

First up is the latest street jam courtesy of First Rule. This time it's in Oakland, and it's going down this Saturday, April 19th.

Why not hang out with many of the same dudes the following day for a dirt jam? Video flyer below, figure out the details at the street jam.

The premiere for the latest Primo video, "Nice Try," is going down Wednesday, April 22nd at Ashley's Bar in Long Beach. This'll be a good one; Long Beach is loaded with riders, so it'll be well-attended. Honor Earth Day by riding your bike there. Details on flyer above.

On April 25th, Kings Rideshop is hosting the Goodtimes Jam at the Desert Hot Springs park. Details on flyer below.

Also on April 25th (if you happen to live in Australia) is the Tempered Bikes Filthy Drains Challenge. Details on flyer below.

Enough California, let's get to the right coast - Boston to be specific. Hit Timeless BMX for the AOTC video premiere on May 15th.

Woodward West in Tehachapi, California is putting on an amateur event on May 16th.

Back in NorCal on May 29th and 30th, we have the Warriors of Wood, a box-jump rhythm event put on by the San Jose Police Athletic League. There's a $15,000 purse and one of San Jose's most famous locals, Ryan Nyquist, will be on hand, so chances are a few other big guns will be present, as well.

  • Ryan Nyquist Lends a Hand

    nyquist
Ryan Nyquist is a swell dude. He's always down to help others, and he's got a few irons in the fire right now that you should know about, and support if you can. First up, you can win a VIP weekend with him at the '09 summer Dew Tour event of your choice by bidding on this auction. It all benefits Via Services, an organization that works to improve the lives of people with disabilities in the Santa Clara Valley - which is in NorCal, where Ryan grew up and recently returned to after a handful of years in Greenville, North Carolina.

Here's the goods you get if you're the winning bidder:
You and guest will be VIP guests of BMX champion Ryan Nyquist on one of his stops on the upcoming AST Dew Tour 2009. You will meet Ryan and check out the course with him, and have VIP access to the weekend's events. In addition, you will win:

    - A Haro bike, custom-fitted to your size

    - A year's supply of Rock Star Energy drinks

    - A Rock Star mini-fridge

    - Signature Ryan Nyquist Bell Helmet and safety pad set

    - Nike 6.0 shoes in your size.

Not a bad haul, and it's all for a great cause. There are a lot of rules and procedures involved, so be sure to read the whole page before you bid. Oh, and you have about 15 days left; bidding closes on March 5th.

Ryan's also putting together an event with the Police Athletic League in San Jose. It's going to go down on May 1&2, but it's still in the development stages at the moment. It won't be huge, but it will be a fun event to chill at with your buddies, and could lead to some cool things for the BMX scene in San Jose. We'll have more info as it becomes available.
