The 2006 Olympic Halfpipe gold medalist, Shaun White, comes into his 4th X Games with the potential and drive to become the first Olympian to win X Games gold. In 2005, Shaun raised eyebrows in the skate community when he won the first stop of the Dew Tour (Louisville, KY, June '05), placed 3rd at the second stop (Denver, CO July '05) and then earned the silver medal at X Games. Post XG, he had a perfect season in snowboarding. In addition to winning Winter X Slopestyle and SuperPipe gold and Olympic gold, he had an undefeated season. Shaun is a megastar in snowboarding and has changed the way the judges view amplitude on the vert ramp.
Going for the 4-peat in Slopestyle in 2006, Shaun White has matured from a grom to halfpipe phenom into an aggressive and versatile all-around rider who can hold his own on anything from big mountains to big jumps--pipe comps to rail jams and then kill it on a skateboard too. At XG '05 he took home his first SKB Vert medal, a silver. On 12/2/05, he added quot;movie starquot; to his rock star status when First Descent began playing in theaters. Shaun White also earned a US Olympic Team spot with his finishes at the Grand Prix's. He won all 5 halfpipe titles of the Grand Prix in Breckenridge[Dec. 14+17, '05] and Mt. Bachelor[Jan. 9, '06], and Moutain Creek, NJ (Jan. 20+22 '06). No rider has ever won 5 Grand Prix's in a row.
An elite professional in two sports, Shaun won his first World Cup halfpipe [snowboard] event in March '05, then his first pro skateboard event in June '05. White is a super celebrity, especially at X Games, where he has a lot of medal, mostly gold, and all from Snowboard. Still holding out for his first Skateboard medal at X, Shaun is well on his way to the podium with his high flying runs filled with 720s.
At 18, Shaun White is a super celebrity, a budding professional skateboarder, and one of the elite professional snowboarders in the world. Shaun White has 5 WX medals: 3 golds and 2 silvers. He took gold in Slopestyle at WX 2004 before a knee injury in practice knocked him out of the SuperPipe competition and killed his chances of double medaling for the second consecutive year. He is one of the few WX athletes who competes in SuperPipe and Slopestyle and he is probably the only one with the potential to win both in any given year. And he's the only snowboarder who garnered one of only 10 invitations to XG 2004 to compete in Skateboard Vert. And to top it all off, he is the first snowboarder since Terje to be the subject of a full-length movie: The White Album debuted in Nov. 2004.
A professional athlete in two sports (snowboarding and skateboarding), Shaun has a lot of medal around his neck, and most of it is gold. After repeating his Snowboard Slopestyle gold at WX '04, he ruled the SuperPipe during the qualifier, looking like the man to beat. Unfortunately, he tore his left meniscus instead and had to sit out of the final without even a chance to repeat his 2003 SuperPipe gold. The tear has now been repaired, but Shaun was unable to finish out the season on the snow, and instead spent the next five months in rehab instead. He started skating again in June, but won't do any competitions before X Games.
Shaun was unable to compete in the SuperPipe final at WX 2004 and missed out on his chance to double medal for the third year in a row.
Future Boy, Future Boy, Future Boy, the crowd chanted as Shaun White charged the pipe at the '00 Breckenridge Vans Triple Crown. He has a pro model out for Burton and went on Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tour. Shaun won his first major contest, The Arctic Challenge '01. He was chosen as the victor by all the riders in the competition.
