  • Nike 6.0 Wake Team Trip to Curacao

Come along with the Nike 6.0 wake team as they search out the sickest winch spots in Curacao and do work in front of awe-struck tourists and locals alike. When your "work" crew consists of some of the world's most talented wakeskaters and wakeboarders, you know minds are going to be blown. And the guys did not disappoint as they laid nails and dropped hammers all day, while capturing banger shots and incredible footage.

"Curacao was an action-filled travel trip for the Nike 6.0 wake team," said Team Mentor, Silas Thurman. "The team - from all different parts of the US and Canada - made their way to Curacao, one of the ABC islands for their yearly action and lifestyle shoot. World-renowned photographer, Joey Meddock came along to capture all the traveling, action and tomfoolery the team got into."

Suffice it to say, when your work travel brings you to places like Curacao you know you're doing something right. And after just one view of the above video, we think you'll agree - these guys are doing everything right.

  • What is Remote Wakeskates? Silas Thurman talks....

I sat down with Silas Thurman to talk business, serious wakeskate business. Silas has been busy working with fellow team riders Andrew Pastura, Ben Horan, Yan Lecomte, on their new company Remote wakeskates. Its been a crazy year for the guys and they are now selling boards. The remote board line is already huge hit in the wakeskate industry and looks like a powerful player for years to come. Make sure you check out the video at the bottom that also gives you more info on remote wakeskates.

Q: Remote, Remote, Remote! Thats all I hear and see these days everywhere it seems that remote is the hottest thing on the block these days. Whats it been like the past year getting to this point finally selling boards?

Crazy! Starting a wakeskate company is tough because there's no mold to follow. Your sort of just going for it. From the MFG for boards and all the other products it's a big deal. I think were close to where we want to be finally though. Things are looking good and it's exciting right now. I feel like we have the right guys in place to make something big.

Q: You've been in the industry for a long time, its gotta be great to be finally be apart of a company that you and your team have total control over. Why is Remote different then other larger wakeboard/wakeskate companies?

It's really ran by the team. There's no one telling us what we can or can't do we just do what we want. That's why I think a lot of kids like it. We run the site, design all the products, graphics, all of us have been to the factory multiple times to deal with the boards. I even answer customer service calls haha. It's just a great vibe and it's great to be in controll of something you love. I think all the guys feel that way and that's why they work so hard.

Q: You were a rider before a Team Manager, as Remote team manager, Nike 6.0 team manager these days you must spend a lot of time taking care of business, are you still able to sneak some sets in between the conference calls and business trips?

Ya I ride just as much as ever. Living in Florida now makes it super easy to ride. I guess now when I'm not riding I'm definetly on the phone or replying and sending emails. I used to just ride and sort chill out. I wouldn't trade it though. Were doing something awesome that I really believe in so it's all worth it.

Q: Some might argue that right now you have one of the hottest teams around, what makes Andrew Pastura and Ben Horan such great fits for Remote?

It's a combination. There as talented or more than any rider in the world, but what sets them apart is there style and attitude off the water. There very care free and just good guys. They wakeskate for the right reasons.

Q:Yan Lecomte is one of your newer riders and hes been making quite the rukus these days too. Its gotta be great to have a big time movie star on the team, does his fame get to his head?

Ha, I think it gets to our head. We always joke with Yan that he's a movie star and were going to do a twighlight series board. He's super humble about it. That's just the way he roles. He let's his riding and laid back attitude do the talking. We are planning an autograph signing outside the clermont cinema June 30 after eclipse come out.

Q: Things have been so crazy with remote lately, where do you see Remote 5 years from now? If everything goes as plan?

Man that's a long ways out, but I think just a steady succesfull remote would be great. Something that can support everything to keep it running maybe be able to add a few more guys to the team and just be able to travel and push wakeskating around the world the way we like it.

Q: One Sentence. If someone asked "What is remote?" Write just one sentence to sum it all up?

    Family.

  • Nike 6.0 "Aquafrolics" Interviews

So I had the chance to get the inside scoop on the new Nike 6.0 Wakeskate Video "AquaFrolics". Aquafrolics is free for download on the nike6 site http://www.nike.com/nke6/aquafrolics/. Even if you have never wakeskated I would still check out the video. The team traveled to alot of different spots and captured some of the most progressive wakeskating to date. These guys are the best and it shows with their riding. Silas Thurman is the nike 6.0 wake team manager and a fellow wakeskater. Silas gets to travel with all the guys around the world and make sure everything gets done.

Check out what Silas Thurman, Ben Horan, Nick Taylor have to say about the new video!

    Silas Thurman

Pwieland: Whats it been like managing the team and getting all the guys where they need to be through out this whole video?

Silas: This is my first run at producing a film. We had a ton of help and all the support we needed from Nike 6.0. Our team in my opinion and I'm sure a lot of others is one of the best wakeskate teams to hit the water. They are all reshaping wakeskating as we speak. Getting them to places they needed to be to make this happen is the least I could do. I feel like giving them the extra support to travel and show there talent of wakeskating to the world will just help wakeskating grow faster then ever and in the right direction.

Pwieland: Are we gonna see any action from yourself in AquaFrolics?

Silas: I have a couple of shots in the beggining. I'm stoked with the stuff I have, but the focus is on our team.Pwieland: You get to hang out and ride with all the guys. Whats it like?

Pwieland: whats it like getting to hang out with the team all the time?

Silas: All of the guys just totally destroy it on a wakeskate! There amazing. There wakeskating as you know is some of the best on the planet, but there all great guys off the water too so that makes everything even easier. I'm really just traveling around the world with friends.

Pwieland: Your an OG in the sport did you ever think nike would have a wakeskate team and now a wakeskate video

Silas: Back when I started you never knew where this would all go. Once I started working with Nike 6.0 5 years ago though, I could see that they were going to make a big impact on our sport. I think the future of wakeskating is looking really good right now.

    Ben Horan

Pwieland: Your known for mainly riding behind the winch. Will your part mostly be winching?

Ben: yeah that and riding be hind the sea-doo. i like to keep it it mellow. the boat is a wast of time for me.

Pwieland: I heard you guys spent some time in texas? Whats so special about the scene in texas for the video?

Ben: man texas is goin off with winch spot. but i am sure there are more states out there that can top that state. just no ones has explored it yet.

Pwieland: Can you tell us the gnarliest thing you did shooting for the video?

    Ben:
man i dont really know im not that gnarly of a guy! haha

    Nick Taylor

Pwieland: Youve been seen locking in a lot lately. Will be seeing a lot of lock in tricks in your part in aquafrolics?

Nick: There's a few in there, but I've got a lot of experimenting and learning to do with locking in. Moving back to the island and renovating my rail park this week is definitely going to help!

Pwieland: Whats your favorite part about riding for Nike 6.0?

Nick: Having a hand in shaping the products, getting to shred the results, having the opportunity to do some behind the scenes work at Nike, and having the resources available to do whatever we need/want to is awesome, BUT, nothing compares to the friendships I have because of my place at Nike 6.0... Team Managers, surfers, product designers, BMXers, filmers, snowboarders, artists...etc. some of the coolest people I know, I've gotten to know through time spent working with Nike. Silas, Ben, Andrew, and Matt especially.

Pwieland: Best location you rode at for the video?

Nick: We had such rad sessions everywhere we went, there wasn't one that I didn't like...
