  • Peepshow drops first teaser for "Winter Wars"

Peepshow really knows the way to my heart. These chicks never let me down. I pretty much act a fool every year their films are released. No matter how cheesy and cliche the phrase, "girl power" may seem - this group of rippers embodies it in the best way possible. Not only do they approach each of their videos in a unique and distinct way, they back it up with ridiculous, ballsy, legit snowboarding. They will always one up you, drop before you, and show you up.

Peepshow Films' upcoming film is entitled "Winter Wars". After last year's "Let's Make Better Mistakes Tomorrow" blew everyone away - this project looks to have the same effect. The starring ladies include Bryn Valaika, Desiree Melancon, Joanie Robichaud, Claudia Avon, Gabi Viteri, Madison Blackley, Collen Quigley, Gabby Maiden, Silvia Mittermuller, Danyale Patterson, Laura Hadar, Darren Reid-Mclean, Jess Kimura and friends.

These girls kill it. Not in a 'for a girl' kind of way - in a 'holy shit, she's got bigger balls than he does' kind of way. Not afraid to get dirty, put in work, or get seriously hurt - the Peepshow crew is always impressive and all-time. Enjoy their first teaser:

  • Smits and Mittermueller new tour leaders after 6Star O'Neill Evolution

GrindTV Newswire, Via TTR World Tour: (January 11, 2011)The 6Star O'Neill Evolution wrapped up in Davos, Switzerland with Sebastien Toutant (CAN) and Jamie Anderson (USA) winning the slopestyle titles today and Christian Haller (SUI) and Kelly Clark (USA) taking top honors in halfpipe yesterday. Each of the winners were awarded a piece of the $125 000 USD prize purse and 1000 TTR World Ranking points. After the first 6Star halfpipe competition of the season and a progressive slopestyle event here at the O'Neill Evolution, Seppe Smits (BEL) took over the Swatch TTR World Tour lead for the men and Silvia Mittermueller (GER) moved into the tour lead for the women. Although neither of these riders were able to snag a podium spot, both Seppe and Silvia have registered more results than others on tour which boosts thier overall score in the World Rankings.

First 6Star Halfpipe Compeition of the 2010/11 Season

The halfpipe finals went down yesterday under bluebird skies and Davos local, Christian Haller, took the first place spot edging out fellow countryman and heavy-hitter, Iouri Podladtchikov, who had to settle for second place. Christian took home the 6Star halfpipe title with a run consisting of a backside 540, frontside 1080, Cab 1080 and a frontside 900. Another Davos local, 16-year old Jan Scherrer, came out of nowhere and made the crowds go wild with a run that earned him third place. Christian earned enough Swatch TTR World Ranking points to move into the World No. 4 position, just behind Iouri who now sits in World No. 3.

On the women's side, Kelly Clark (USA) dominated in the halfpipe, definitely set the bar for amplitude and threw down a stylish frontside indy, backside 540, frontside 720 and a Cab 720 to take first place. This was Kelly's first TTR result for the season that, together with her end-of- season bonus points, shot her straight into TTR World No. 10. Slovenian rider Cilka Sadar, took second place moving her into World No. 5 and Kjersti Ostgaard Buaas (NOR) placed third and remains in World No. 4.

Big Tricks Thrown Down on the Slopestyle Course
The slopestyle course was built next to the halfpipe at the bottom of Jakobshorn mountain and featured two challenging features for riders to hit. The first was a kicker with two super poppy take-offs measuring 40-feet and 55-feet and the second was a choice of three rails including an up-flat-down box, a pole jam and a flat-down rail. Sebastien Toutant was on fire on the slopestyle course today and won the finals with a Cab double cork 1260 to a backside boardslide to underflip out on his final run. Seb had this to day about his win, "Second 6Star win of the season is so amazing today. To ride with my good friends and every run we were stepping it up. On my last run I was outside of the podium and stomped my best Cab 12 ever. I plan to go to BEO next and give it my best on the TTR Tour."

Fellow Canadian, Mark McMorris was able to put down a Cab double cork 1260 to frontside tailslide to 450 out after a hard slam on his first run to take second place. And, American rider, Eric Willet, who has been making a name for himself over the past two seasons in the contest scene took third place with a switch backside double cork 1260 to backside boardslide to 450 out.

On the women's side, Jamie Anderson (USA) rose above the pack to take the women's slopestyle title with a backside 540 mute to a switch frontside boardslide-to-backside boardslide. Now sitting in the World No. 3 position, Jamie was super excited and had this to say about the day, "Today the event was really fun. The kicker was perfect and the weather was great. The progression for women's riding was really high, which was awesome. After this I'm going to head to the 6Star Burton European Open and then I want to go to all the big TTR events." Sarka Pancochova was riding well to take second place and reigning TTR Champion, Enni Rukajarvi, was able to grab third place.

Whats Next on the TTR Tour
After some excellent riding this weekend at the O'Neill Evolution, riders will make the short trip over to Laax, Switzerland for the 6Star Burton European Open. With two more 6Star results available at the Burton European Open, it will be a crucial event for riders looking to improve their ranking positions especially those making a run for the Swatch TTR World Tour Champion. • It's a Cracker of a Day Here at Cardrona!

    Burton New Zealand Open 2009

Photos by Phil Erickson courtesy of Burton

"Cracker of a day". That's New Zealand slang for "It's a really nice day here". I learned it this morning when the kiwi PR girl sent me an email letting me know the exciting news for the days Halfpipe Qualification rounds. The previous day's Slopestyle qualifications had been held under absolute crap weather, so you can understand how it was exciting news when the weather took an unexpected turn for the better.

So bluebird it was, and subsequently some decent riding got dolled out. Over 100 riders had to vie for a spot in the top 10 men and 5 women that would move onto Saturday's main event- Halfpipe Semi-Finals and Halfpipe Finals.

To keep it somewhat short (You can check the Burton Global Open Series website if you want to make it long) it was little Norweigen Stale "Style" Sandbech who showed everyone how it's done. His run consisted of back to back 7's, a couple 540's and a massive backside air tailgrab. (Stale's tailgrabs are insane. Hopefully someone, somewhere got a photo of that.)

Fun trivia fact for you. Stale Standbech is the little brother of Frode Sandbech, one of Transworld Snowboarding Magazine's talented Senior Photographers. Stale does everything BUT ride his brothers successful coattails. When you are lucky enough to see the kid ride in person you'll understand how. Keep an eye out for that one.

In an interesting turn of international affairs, only one American squeaked thru qualifications today. Coming in 10th was Steamboat Springs, CO native Taylor Gold. With a start list of 100 riders, even 10th is pretty damn impressive.

So, these top 10 Men move on to face the likes of pre-qualified halfpipe riders Danny Davis, Shaun White, Danny Kass, Scotty Lago, Luke Mitrani, Mason Aguirre and more. (No pressure guys.) Congrats on making it through.

The girls had a better day today with the weather abiding. U.S. rider Clair Bidez took it for the women. The five ladies who made it thru today are up against the legendary Kelly Clark and new-to-pipe-but-kills-it Jamie Anderson. Jamie actually won the pipe event last year, and I do believe it was the first professional pipe contest she has ever entered, although Jamie is a long-time and well-known dominatrix when it comes to Slopestyle. Girl goes big.

  • The Weather Down Under is Frightening

    Burton New Zealand Open 2009

Photos by Phil Erickson courtesy of Burton

The first few days of any of the Burton Global Open Series stops are brutal. They have to whittle fields of hundreds of riders down to just 10 men and 5 women. They do this for the men with a pre-qualifier (25 men get in) and then a qualifier (the 25 dudes compete against each other for the 10 spots.) The 45 women vying to even make it in the even don't get a pre-qualifier. They cut them down from 45 to 5 in one foul swoop. Harsh.

They do this in two days. One day for Slopestyle, and one for Halfpipe. They are long-ass days. Take it from me, I've been at plenty of them- including a couple in New Zealand.

They are even longer when the weather is crappy. And insider reports claim that the weather was not only crappy on the first day during the Slopestyle knock-out rounds at Cardrona Resort, but that it was downright shitty. And, as fate would have it, the shitty weather got shittier after the men finished competing, just as the girls stepped up to the plate. Poor darlings really got the blunt end of the stick this day.

The girls took their first run and the weather got so bad that they postponed the second run until the next day, a rare occurrence at any snowboard competition. The girls are slated to battle out the final run on Friday morning. The top five will go straight into Finals that afternoon.

Here are the Men's results from Slopestyle Qualifications. These lucky few will go on to compete against the riders that are previously qualified from last year's BGOS rankings for Semi-Finals (Semi-Finals and Finals happen this weekend), and the fields are STACKED. The mens start list is boasting riders like Torstein Horgmo, Chas Guldemond, Antti Autti, Danny Davis, Peetu Piiroinen, and Tim Humphreys. On the Women's side slopestyle slayers like Chanelle Sladics, Jamie Anderson, Silvia Mittermuller, and Spencer O'Brien. It's gonna be a good one.
