| Spencer O'Brien and Sebastien Toutant Claim Winter Dew Tour Slopestyle Championships Words: Alli SportsSebastien Toutant came to the slopestyle course today at Snowbasin with one goal in mind - to win his first Dew Cup at the Toyota Championship. After a season of consistent riding, placing second at the both the Nike Open and Pantech Invitational, he used his motivation to stomp a clean and technical run and earn a score of 94.50. He already had the win in his pocket when dropping in for his second lap through the course, and managed to improve upon his score, starting with a backside 270 onto the first rail, followed by a 50-50 to gap frontside 360 out on the up down rail and a frontside bluntslide 270 out on the cannon. He landed a frontside 1080 double cork on the first jump, ending with a backside 1080 double cork. "This year it was my goal to do well on Dew Tour," said Toutant after his win. "It feels so great to win the Dew Cup." Coming in second was Dash Kamp, elated to podium in his rookie year on Tour, saying "I'm on cloud nine. This trophy is something I've always wanted!" Spencer Link rounded out the podium in third. Spencer O'Brien swept the season's women's snowboard slopestyle events and took the Dew Cup with a win at today's final. After falling short in her first lap through the course, she pulled a winning second run that began with a switch boardslide to 50-50 on the gap box, followed by a frontside boardslide on the up down rail and a boardslide to fakie on the cannon. ![]() She tore into the jumps, landing a switch backside 540 mute and frontside 720 indy. Her score of 94.50 put her above the rest of the field by a full 8 points. O'Brien previously won the Dew Cup in 2009, and her success on the Tour this year made for an impressive season. "It feels really good to have the Cup back," she said, following her win. "It feels great, this is by far my best season." Women's Snowboard Slopestyle Final Results 1. Channels: Snow McMorris and O'Brien claim 2012 O'Neill EvolutionDavos, Switzerland, Saturday 7th of January 2012: The Wo rld of professional snowboarding started 2012 with a bang as hard fought victories by Canadian, Mark McMorris, and American, Spencer O'Brien, to claim O'Neill Evolution Titles cap a week of action in Davos, Switzerland. Despite weather challenges, the first major event on the 2012 TTR World Snowboard Tour brought the cream of international riders and the highest level of performance culminating at Saturday's finals. Pushing the highest known technical limits, competition was fierce as riders vied for a share of the $125k USD prize purse, TTR Ranking points and seeding into the World Championships. The Women's Final was blessed with he best riding conditions all week, and the eight Women who made the final took no time to demonstrate massive progression. Despite stiff competition, Spencer O'Brien lifted the bar from the first of her three runs, and continued to set the standard for the remainder of the finals. O'Brien's first run, a landed frontside 720 nosebone to gapped lipslide, caught the imagination of the judges seeing her take home $20,000 USD and direct qualifications into the World Championships. Sina Candrian(SUI) was always dangerous, but failed to land her final run leaving her in 2nd while Anna Gasse(AUT) managed to fend of challengers to secure third. ![]() There was an electric atmosphere surrounding the huge crowd at the foot of the Jakobshorn as incredible light show welcomed in the 16-man Night Final who were additionally treated to a rarely seen level of progressive freestyle snowboarding. The atmosphere intensified as the lead swapped between Eric Willet(USA) and Mark McMorris(USA). Willet scored what looked like an unassailable 95.30pts with a switch backside doublecork 1260 to lipslide 270 in his second run, only for McMorris to edge in front of him with a score of 95.60pts with a bigger backside doublecork 1260 to lipslide 270. Seppe Smits(BEL) turned up the pressure, landing a cab 1440 mute to cab 270 fronside boardslide in his final run, but it was not enough to change the order of the podium, seeing McMorris pocket a cool $40,000 USD for his efforts. The results also saw major Tour Lead changes on the TTR World Snowboarding Tour Ranking system, where Eric Willet moved to the top of the TTR Big Air Ranking, Christian Haller(SUI) moved into TTR Overall lead while Sina Candrian(SUI) and Seppe Smits(BEL) booked places at the World Snowboard Championships. In what will be remembered as one of the most incredible O'Neill Evolutions to date, the celebrations are set to start and look certain to go well into the nigh. As the first major slopestyle competition of the season, the riders were throwing down solid runs throughout the day, and set the bar for upcoming slope events. The ladies kicked things off bright and early Sunday morning under blazing blue skies and warm temps. Spencer O'Brien came out of the gates charging and laid down the best two runs of the day. On her second run, the Canadian ripper stomped a frontside boardslide, frontside lipslide, backside 540 melon, switch backside 540 mute, 50-50 backside 180, switch backside 180 mute, frontside 720 indy, and a massive frontside 720 on the fourth jump. This run earned her a 90.75, which was easily enough for first place. Burton rider, Enni Rukajarvi, who had a break-out season last year, blasted into second place after landing a run that was highly technical and clean. Sarka Panochova rounded out the ladies podium with a score of 72.0. Defending Dew Tour champ, Jamie Anderson, was pre-qualifed for the event, but was unable to successfully land either of her runs today. On her first run, Jamie washed out on the landing of jump one. Just as her second run was shaping up to contend with O'Brien's, Anderson knuckled the last jump during her 720 attempt. Following the contest O'Brien, said "Jamie's an amazing rider and I love to compete against her because she is so good. She pushes me so much, and she definitely comes out on top more than I do. But I'll take the wins when I can get them. It's rare for her to fall." Following the women's event, the men took to the course and destroyed all of the massive features. It was a double-cork showdown, as rotations were (seemingly) scored higher than smooth, stylish spins. Norwegian Gjermund Braaten was the big winner of the day, and scored a massive 97.00 on his first run which included four whopping double-corks and a flawless switch alley-oop off the wall feature. Braaten was visble stoked with his performance and commented after the event, "I knew it was a good run, but I had no idea it would be a 97." Sebastian Toutant also threw four doubles in his run; a cab dub 9, front dub 10, back dub 10 and double backside rodeo 9, which earned a 96.0 and slotted him in second place. Following the event, Toutant said, "I think both runs were really good. It's all about the judging, you know? I'm stoked for Gjermund, it's his first Dew Tour podium, and mine too. It's a judging sport, so you never know though." Charles Reid was also riding extremely well and posted a score of 90.0 which was enough to earn the French Canadian third place. Sunday's slope contest was one of the heaviest to date, and it's clear that a solid arsenal of doubles is required to be in podium contention. The fourth annual Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Colorado is a wrap, and the action continues in Killington, Vermont next month. Braaten's winning run. The weather was prime for giant powder slashes, pillow lines, and all-around amazing freeriding. On top of that, this crew was cruising around on a snowcat and getting heli-rides to the best locations. The looks on the girls faces basically speak for themselves. Anyone who got to drop into this terrain would feel like a chubby kid inside of a candy store. Wide open powder fields, fun cliff crops, and poppy backcountry jumps were theirs for the taking. SNOWBOARDER Magazine was also along for the ride on this trip and put out an entire feature in the latest SNOWBOARDER Girl, so get your hands on that. Video recap of this heavenly trip below: Channels: Snow Ms Superpark 7 presented by Gatorade: Day 3The month of March may have come in like a lamb, but it went out like a lion for the third day of Ms Superpark 7 presented by Gatorade at Keystone Resort in Summit County, Colorado. ![]() 'Ms SuperPow' as it's been coined by some, experienced another day of erratic Colorado weather. The morning session was hampered by intense fog and snow which made visibility minimal at best. Since it wasn't the most ideal weather for shredding park, some of the girls ventured to Keystone's Outback and tapped into the foot of fresh that had fallen over night. During the afternoon session, the snow stopped and the sun tried to poke out of the thick grey skies. The little hints of light brightened everyone's spirits and created an atmosphere that was all about having fun and getting creative. We caught up with some of the girls in between runs for their insight into Day 3 of Ms Superpark 7. Check out what they had to say- Spencer O'Brien: My favorite part about Superpark is all of the girls coming together to ride. It's like the only time of year when all the film girls and the contest girls get to shred together. This is the best Superpark setup we've ever had- the jumps are great. We haven't had the best weather but everyone is having fun and it's super good. My favorite feature is probably the pole jam to whalestail. I think it's super creative and really well built. Other than that the triple line is super good, and I'm really hoping that tomorrow we get to shoot on it. Day 3 Standouts: Raewyn Reid on the up to flat. I just saw her do 50/50 frontboard pretzel out which was pretty sick. Kjersti Buaas: My favorite part about Superpark is that all the girls come here and it's really creative and everyone just hits whatever feature that suits them best. It's nice to see so much individuality and style come out. That makes me happy. ![]() Favorite Feature: I actually don't know yet because I haven't hit everything yet. I've been sick for like ten days, so this is my first day here and I'm just cruising around. I think the jumps look so sick and that butterpad looks really good. So tomorrow, when the sun comes out, it'll be good. Day 3 Standouts: Jamie did some sick stuff on the rails and me and Chanelle have been riding the hip with the basketball hoop, I really like it. It's kind of small and flat landing, but it's super fun. It was better than expected today. There's a lot of good riders here. Lot of good style here too. Robin Van Gyn: Best part of Superpark: I think it's seeing everybody at one venue. I think that's the best part! I mean it's always awesome to ride a super sick park, but it's nice to see everybody. Favorite Feature: Whalestail. Hands Down. Cannon to Whalestail for sure. Day 3 Standouts: I saw Leanne do a pillow line, that was rad. Megan Whiteside: Riding with everyone. That's been my favorite part, having everyone at the same place and the same time. Favorite Feature: Keystone always does a phenomenal job with their park, so everything is really on point and I'd say that my favorite feature is still that gap jump just cause it's big and different---- And she's been the only one hitting it.. Day 3 Standouts: I saw a girl take out the sign (on the hip) and then Kumara Kelley has been completely gapping the hip and going over the sign and sending it. I'm stoked for her. ![]() Chanelle Sladics: Super Duper Park! I think seeing all the girls is the best part because a lot of girls come out of the woods, out of the backcountry, out of the contests and come in from all angels, out of the urban city street rail scene, so you get a mix of many different colors and personalities here. Keystone went above and beyond in terms of creativity. It's the best Superpark I've been to, minus the weather. Favorite Feature: I like the Gatorade up-rail and I'm hitting the hip right now. Everything is pretty fun. The jumps are going to be epic too, so that's going to be going down tomorrow. Day 3 Standouts: I was having fun doing laps with Kjersti, hitting the first rail into the pow, then hitting the cat track and spinning out of that into powder. I was liking that line.... We got Izzy getting all sexual on these rails. And Raewyn did a sick frontboard pretzel out on the up-rail feature and Jamie just came out of nowhere and is slaying it like usual. Lynn Neil: My favorite part of Superpark is watching all the girls rip because I'm injured right now, so I can't hit the jumps but they look so sweet and the Whalestail feature is sick. I think that's my favorite feature. ![]() Day 3 Standouts: I've haven't seen too much go down today except for on the hip. Nicki Slechta was going so big today and was tapping the sign. I think she went the biggest I've seen today. Alice Gong: Superpark is so much fun this year. If anything it's just having a great reunion with your friends that you don't get to see all year and its amazing having this energy and all of these girls around. Favorite Feature: I like the lower tube and the hip with the sign tap, it's cool to get interactive with your features! Day 3 Standouts: I'm following my girl Izzy into the gap on the left of the whalestail and I just saw her spin. I'm pretty inspired so I think I'm going to follow her into it on this run. Ashley Thornton: Best part of Superpark: So far hanging out with all the ripping girls that are out here and how amazing Keystone has set up the park for us. It's been snowing the whole time and they've made it a blast. Favorite Feature: The whalestail would be my favorite feature. I haven't hit it since the first day, but tomorrow when the sun comes back out, that's what I'll be playing on. ![]() Jamie Anderson: Superpark is great! To come out here and have a private park, get all the girls together to session, have fun, ride some cool features and learn some new tricks. It's a good little spring session. Day 3 Standouts: I saw a girl try and do a front 3 to tap and she broke the tap. It was pretty funny and awesome. The last day of Ms Superpark 7 presented by Gatorade goes down tomorrow at Keystone Resort. Fingers crossed for a sunny day that's sure to witness the most progressive riding yet.
