Aspen local Steele Spence, a rail specialist, will compete in his fourth Slopestyle comp at WX '05. Steele finished second at the McDonald's rail jam at the World Skiing Invitational in 2004 and then went on to help lead his team to victory at the Orage Masters (Mammoth, CA) in May. Steele continues to take classes at the Art Institute of Colorado in Denver in the fall. He has so far put that education to work as a graphic designer for 4FRNT skis, the company he both rides for and has a stake in.
Steele Spence is an Aspen, CO local, and a very talented rail skier. He attended WX in 2002 and 2003, competing in Slopestyle both years. He took 7th in 2002, and just missed the podium in 2003 with a fourth place. Steele's 2003 run was a crowd pleaser, and he was the only skier to grease the intimidating Titanic rail. Over the summer of 2003, Steele dropped his corporate sponsor, Atomic, for 4FRNT, a ski company headed by pro skier Matt Sterbenz.
A graduate of Aspen High School, Aspen Middle School, and Aspen Elementary, Steele Spence will certainly be a home crowd favorite in slopestyle.
