Irvine, Calif. (September 20, 2010) - Just one week after winning the Red Bull XRAY in Australia, Metal Mulisha's Taka Higashino impressed the Salt Lake City crowd by winning the first Dew Tour competition of his career. ![]() Taka consistently landed the best scores of the night against some of the sport's biggest names - including Mulisha teammates Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg and Ronnie Faisst - who all represented the Metal Mulisha in the semifinals. Featuring a head-to-head, four-round format where the rider with a better score advanced to the next round, the semifinals came down to a battle between Taka and Twitch on one side and Faisst against Mike Mason on another. Taka achieved full extension on all of his maneuvers to eliminate Twitch, then treated fans to a few extra tricks after time had expired. Meanwhile, Faisst fell to Mason, who landed a lazy boy backflip and backflip heel clicker put him into the finals. In the final, Mason held strong with a Superman flip and backflip heel clicker for a clean, consistent run that earned him an 86.50. However, Taka couldn't be denied, posting an 89.00, thanks to a double grab indy, stripper flip and double grab backflip combination. "This has been an awesome two weeks, I'm so happy to win for Mulisha at home in the USA," said Taka. "It was great to compete against Twitch in the semis, although I wish we could have faced each other in the finals. We'll be celebrating this one for a long time." Channels: Moto Taka flies high in Australia at Red Bull XRAY![]() GrindTV Newswire via Metal Mulisha- Irvine, Calif. (September 15, 2010) - Metal Mulisha continued its dominating 2010 campaign this weekend, as Taka Higashino took home a gold and silver for the Mulisha at the Red Bull XRAY event in New South Wales, Australia. Joined by Mulisha teammate and X Games gold medalist Cam Sinclair, along with event creator Robbie Maddison, one of the best freestyle motocross events of the year saw Taka steal the show with a surprise win over Maddison in the FMX event and silver behind another Aussie, Robbie Marshall. With more than 15,000 Australians cheering on hometown hero Maddison at the scenic Razorback Ranch, outside of Sydney, the veteran rider qualified for the FMX finals and was on his way to a repeat of his win in last year's event. But Taka landed some huge maneuvers to bring home the gold for Mulisha in the head-to-head finals. The battle came down to one extra jump, and a solid score in the style department capped a Mulisha win for the 24-year-old from Japan. Taka then went on to face Queenslander Marshall in the Speed & Style finals, a competition which saw some fierce battles between local riders and international FMX stars. Marshall edged out Taka for the win, but the fan-favorite from Osaka showed his typically positive attitude after wards. "I'm so happy to take home two podium finishes, including a first," said Taka. "We rode so much over the three days, and it has been great fun here in Australia. Maddo gave me a good challenge today, so I'm so grateful to win two more medals for Mulisha and show them off to the guys back in California." Mulisha's Cam Sinclair, 2010 X Games star and comeback story of the year, also performed well in front of his home country crowd, narrowly missing a medal in FMX while taking 4th.
