  • Update: Tj Lavin is showing significant signs of improvement

Professional BMX rider, Tj Lavin continues to make significant improvements on his condition after suffering a nasty accident two weeks ago during the qualifiers of the Dew Tour is Vegas. Lavin has reportedly been conscious, talking, even up and walking the hospital halls. Lavin was in a medically educed coma, after suffering bleeding to the brain, a broken wrist, and an orbital fracture.

Lavin's close friend and business partner Chas Aday said, ""It's been wonderful to see how much better he's doing. From a medically induced coma to being unconscious, to being intubated with a breathing tube, to not responding at all, to seeing him now, it's awesome. You really can't find words to express how relieved you are to see that."

    Stay tuned for updates.

  • TJ Lavin remains unconscious; said to be moving extremities

BMX star TJ Lavin, whose violent crash Thursday night in Las Vegas left him critically injured, is making slow progress but remains unconscious with brain injuries at University Medical Center, according to reports.

His friend and business partner Chas Aday told MTV News on Sunday that Lavin, who stars for MTV's "Real World/Road Rules Challenge" series, has been moving his arms and legs in what seems like fidgeting.

"He's just kinda moving around like he gets irritated that he's in there," Aday said, adding that Lavin also is battling pneumonia.

Lavin's mother reportedly texted another of Lavin's friends to say her son had moved his hands on Saturday.

Lavin, 33, was wearing a helmet when he slammed into the dirt after attempting a "nac-nac" trick combination while soaring above the ramp during the Dew Tour BMX Dirt prelims.

  • BMX star TJ Lavin critically injured in Las Vegas BMX competition

BMX star TJ Lavin remains hospitalized in critical condition with head injuries suffered during a violent crash Thursday night in qualifying rounds of a Dew Tour competition in Las Vegas.

Lavin, 33, was soaring high over a dirt ramp and attempting a difficult maneuver that entailed becoming temporarily unseated from his bicycle. He failed to get his feet back on the pedals before landing on the down-slope, and became separated from his bike just before impact.

The athlete was wearing a helmet, according to Dew Tour spokeswoman Nicole Mancuso.

Video footage of the incident, which was posted briefly on YouTube, has been blocked by NBC Universal, which owns the Dew Tour, over copyright concerns.

Lavin, a Las Vegas native who also stars for MTV's "Real World/Road Rules" series, was knocked unconscious and also was said to have suffered broken ribs and a broken right wrist. A spokeswoman at University Medical Center on Friday morning would not confirm those injuries or reports that Lavin was in a coma. All she would confirm was that his condition remained critical.

Action News in Las Vegas on Friday afternoon reported that Lavin's mother said her son was in a medically-induced coma to relieve swelling on the brain. She added that doctors were able to move Lavin's arms and legs.

The incident underscores the danger of top-level BMX competitions, during which competitors perform tricks such as bike spins, bar spins and body maneuvers that involve releasing their feet from the pedals.

Lavin, who helped design the Las Vegas course, is a veteran BMX Dirt specialist and longtime star; he's won gold medals in the X games and numerous Dew Tour accolades. He'll be in the hearts and minds of fellow competitors at this season's final Dew Tour competition this weekend.

  • Today's BMX Videos

I know I am a Tran Fan... but I do not know folks. This is like a whole new Hoang Tran. Is that his Element? Is that hair clean and groomed? The bike all new and not spray painted to death? Hmmm... I do not know people... He is still the sickest rider on the planet EARTH. Believe it.

Vinyl BMX put up a really good looking video of Corey Martinez, another absolute killer in riding, spending a week in Chicago. There has been a lack of T-Nez footage recently, even considering Levi's weekly videos on Vital, so this is a nice refresh on how much he shreds. Watch it.

Premium BMX posted a video bike check with Garrett Reynolds, absolute street dominator. He gets that title by not only putting out great video parts but also winning street contests in major events such as X Games, Dew Tour, etc. So, if you ride what he rides you can be good too, right? We'll see about that...

Ride BMX posted this video of TJ Lavin's Backyard Jam. They posted some photographs previously which you can view on their site, but here's the video. Facts of video: Fuzzy Hall is absolutely the man. Props to Stephen Murray on hsi road to recovery and the help of the BMX community. TJ's backyard is the shit. And props to the riders fighting the wind to get down on the jumps, risking their bodies and trying their best for Murray.
