| TJ Schiller tears ACL, pulls out of X Games 15Professional freeskier TJ Schiller was forced to pull out of Winter X Games 15 this week due to a serious knee injury. This unfortunate accident occurs almost one year after one of the most impressive showings at Winter X, where Schiller landed the first ever double corked 1620 in competition and earned a perfect score. ![]() Schiller is suffering from a torn ACL and ruptured meniscus after he landed wrong in the park at Keystone Mountain Resort on Monday, December 13. TJ was training prior to the first stop of the Winter Dew Tour that is going down at Breckenridge this weekend. Schiller's manager told ESPN that, "Immediately TJ knew that he had injured his knee" after the fall. After visiting numerous doctors in Colorado, it was confirmed that he had a 3rd degree ACL tear that will require two surgeries. Not only should TJ be counted out for the X Games but he will also be off his skis for the remainder of the 2010-11 season. Injuries such as this can really bum an athlete out - with the season just barely underway, it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, TJ has received a tremendous amount of support from his fans, friends, and family and is focusing on the rehabilitation of his knee and coming back stronger than ever next year. Seymour this past weekend and the event went off under sunny blue skies in perfect spring-like conditions. Angela Sun from Yahoo Sports was on the scene to break down all the action that unfolded at Mt. Seymour. Words: Dave Pires (NewSchoolers.com) After the warmest January and early February on record, the international media camped out in Vancouver have had a field day talking about the weather and the problems it's causing during the Olympics. Fortunately, not one person at Saturday's Nike 6.0 Greatest Hits Jam had any reason to complain. Brilliant sunshine and perfect spring conditions welcomed local riders escaping the madness of the city, and with the most snow and best park on the North Shore, there was no doubt that Mount Seymour was the place to be. As early arrivals filtered up the hill and started to scope the park, the message board beside the lift captured the attitude of the day perfectly, mocking, "Did you know the Olympics are happening?" ![]() The famed Burlington High School double kink was one of the featured "Greatest Hits." It was totally un-Olympic and totally fun. Seymour's main chair presented a bird's eye view of the park, located directly below, and the course consisted of one jump, a down bar leading into a double-kink box and rail, and a picnic table. The 'Greatest Hits' were set up farther down, featuring an actual electrical box hittable from two sides, Quebec's Red Ledge, and beside it the impressive Burlington High School double-kink. With the barbeque fired up, the DJ spinning, and TJ Schiller, Elena Hight, Greg Bretz and Louie Vito all in attendance, it was the perfect setup to set things off. ![]() Elena Hight, Greg Bretz, and TJ Schiller hanging out at the Nike 6.0 Greatest Hits Jam. ![]() Louie Vito was on the scene hanging out and enjoying a day out of the halfpipe and in the terrain park. Nike's Greatest Hit Jam proved to be a super fun event that was all about hanging out, having a good time and straight up shredding. Check out the rest of the action here:Nike's Photo Fun . Channels: Snow Skiing Big Air Finals- Winter X Games 14 Aspen, COWords by Jeff Schmuck Photos by John Vandervalk www.majestyphoto.com ![]() The most legendary big air contest in freeskiing history went off last night at Winter X Games 14 in Aspen, Colorado. The progression of skiing was brought to a whole new level under a majestic full moon brighter than the Hollywood-esque X Games flood lights in front of a maniacal and massive crowd of 20,000 people. ![]() Elias Ambuhl photo: John Vandervalk In third place, Switzerland's Elias Ambuhl stepped things up to a whole new level early with a switch double cork 1440, which sent the capacity crowd at the base into an absolute frenzy, although it was just a sign of things to come. ![]() TJ Schiller photo: John Vandervalk TJ Schiller, who failed to make the cut for today's slopestyle finals, went all out tonight, throwing a double cork 1620 for the first time in history on skis, or a snowboard. It was a trick that would have won any given big air competition on any given night, had it not been for Bobby Brown. ![]() Bobby Brown photo: John Vandervalk Bobby Brown began his tenure in finals by also throwing a brand new and new before seen trick, a switch double misty flip 1260. The trick deservingly earned Brown a perfect score, which would have been historic enough on its own, until he went back up to the top and stepped it up with a switch double misty flip 1440, earning him yet another perfect score for a total of 100 points out of 100. A first at Winter X Games...or any ski competition for that matter. ![]() Bobby Brown photo: John Vandervalk To say that Elias, TJ and Bobby set the bar for the remainder of the weekend would be an understatement of greater magnitude than what transpired last night in Aspen, which was unquestionably one of, if not the most impressive big air contest in the history of skiing. Get ready for more of the same in today's ski slopestyle finals and superpipe eliminations, followed by Sunday night's ski superpipe finals and pipe high air. It's going to be one hell of a ride.
