UP CLOSE & PERSONAL
JP; What's the funniest nickname you've ever heard someone call you? VA: "feather brisas".... richard fox made it up and he is notorious for saying things that dont make sense just for laughs. he came up with that after calling me "chicken feather" for a couple years when my hair was long and out of control. Ive also been called applewhite, lightbulb, white lion, and to this day vinyardo or vinny
JP: What (board) did you ride your very first time in the water? VA: I was on a boogie for a couple years when i was like 6,7,8...
JP: What are you riding now? VA: around Oceanside I normaly ride a 5'11" speed monkey by RAT.
JP: If you couldn't be a surfer, what would you want to be? VA: A venture capitalist
JP: Would you rather have a maid or a personal chef? VA: I can cook pretty good so i guess a maid to clean up my mess afterwards
JP: How many hours a week do you train/work out? VA: on the worst week- about 15 hours i am up almost every day at first light
JP: What's your all-time favorite candy? VA: not sure if it qualifies as candy but i love fresh baked chocolate chip cookies
JP: Describe your ideal surfing spot? VA: Double overhead barreling rights, with a bit of consequence on the take off to make it more chalenging. then it has to peel across a sand bottom for at least 200 yards. Nobody out except my friends. and when looking to the land from the water, not one building in site. only green trees full of fruit and even some waterfalls.... yeah that would be awesome!
JP: If you could "beam" yourself & 5 friends anywhere in the world right this minute, what destination would you pick? VA: the wave I just described above.... and it happens to be somewhere in mexico
JP: Do you have an "inny" or an "outty?" VA: inny
JP: What's your "hands down favorite" Jet Pilot product? VA: that's a tough one. I am a big fan of the lycra board shirts. gotta have em if you are in a tropical place. also the side entry lifevests are key for towsurfing and not being to bulky
JP: What's your new favorite word or saying (right now)? VA: jeez guy
JP: What's your "lucky charm" or lucky ritual you do before you compete? VA: listen to music that gets me amped.... Nihilist usually
JP: How many house plants did you kill in the past year? VA: only the ones I forgot to water
JP: Name one of your heroes: VA: My parents
OTHER STUFF: Vince has got his own surf focused website & production group with Straight Out Productions. Blows up huge Superman airs at will. Somehow does 8 top turns on waves at Oceanside (what the?) and has the best damn hair-do in the industry - bar none.
Very focused on travel and adventure, as well as any and all air-comps, Vince represents an innovative angle on pro surfing today. Going on trips, doing big airs, filming the whole thing and making a TV show about it that profiles it all along with all kinds of other riders & industry figures - how's that?! Like we said "innovative". Vince and Jetpilot make a good match here - "re-invent" "innovate" "create" it's what we're both into and we're into it because it works. Vince is pushing the limits of surfing and the surf industry today, check him out! My BrandsVince Alessi is linked to 1 brand on GrindTV. |
