Getting three goofballs on pitbikes to jump three different jumps at precisely the same time as one another is nearly impossible. I got precisely one shot of Willy Browning (front), Jeff Gibson and Craig “Danger” Garrett in perfect alignment before I pulled my hair out in frustration. Thankfully, it all worked out and I even got Willy’s tongue hanging out. These trails were poached right across the street from the AMA offices in Westerville, Ohio around 2004 some time for a bit we were doing for the now defunct MiniMoto Magazine. Speaking of trips of a lifetime, check out this bunch of wacko U.S. motocrossers standing in the center of Red Square, Moscow. Folks, 10 years ago this photo never would’ve happened and looking back now, it seems almost unbelievable. I was charged with organizing and transporting a team of U.S. privateers to go compete in the first, and only, Moscow Supercross and boy, what a nutty week that turned out to be. Left to right in the photo we have: unknown random French guy, Jacob Saylor (in red hat), Leah Cantrell (Renner’s mechanic/girlfriend), Ricky Renner behind Leah, Fuel Clothing’s Shane Gould, Willy B. and his man-friend Mikey Campbell, Engine Ice Dave Kimmey, another unknown French guy, Kyle Tobin, and RupertX. Fun? Yes. Glad to be home? Yesser. (Jeff Kardas Photo)
Willy Browning. He’s a recurring subject of my pics and for good reason: he’s an insanely talented rider, always looks good, and will try anything at least once. We got together for a MiniMoto cover shoot (since he’s pretty much been the poster boy for pitbike racing the past 6 years or so) and this is what we came up with. Q flash held out of frame by Mikey Campbell, we hit up some truly crazy quarry area just outside of Newark, Ohio for this pic. We got a ton of great stuff that day, but this was the gem. More Willy B., this time flying high for what I think was a One Ind. catalog shoot. As simple as this is, it still ranks in my top 10 of all-time favorites and no matter how may times I try to explain why, Willy just can’t understand why. Canon 1D Mark 2, 16-35mm. (Jeff Kardas Photo)
