Thousands come out to watch some of skateboardings greatest ever tech wizards.

New York City, NY – August 17, 2008 – A stacked field of skateboardings greatest core heroes turned up under the Manhattan bridge in NYC today to battle it out for what has become the truest test of technical skateboarding today. Joey Brezinski took back the crown he won at the very first Manny Mania in Venice beach by taking on a field of skaters the likes of which have never been seen before in the same contest. This year’s field truly represented the core of skateboarding and for most of these pros Manny Mania is the only contest they’ll do all year.

Joey was in fine touch all day sitting in first after the preliminary rounds and the Semi finals but the pressure was on all day. In the preliminary round it was Stevie Williams and Eli Reed that were hot on his heals but they couldn’t handle the pressure in the semi finals. That’s when Brandon Biebel stepped it up to challenge Joey in an attempt to go one better than his second place effort last year to Ronnie Creager. After a close fought Semi final it was Brezinski, Biebel and Chico Brenes that would fight for the crown in the final jam.

The final turned out to be a heated battle between Brezenski and Biebel with the two tech masters one upping each other on every trick. It could have gone either way and in the end it was only one point that separated the two skaters and it was an elated Joey that stood alone as the 2008 Red Bull Manny Mania champ.

“Seven hours of skating, my legs are done” said a very tired Brezinski, who was a major part of conceiving the idea of Red Bull Manny Mania. “I’m just so psyched that everyone came together to make this happen, thanks Red Bull, thanks New York and most of all thanks to all the skaters.”

Skate legend Eric Koston was on fire tearing up the custom built Manny Pad in practice but the competitors didn’t have to worry about that. Koston was there as a special guest judge along with his Berrics partner Steve Berra, but he may have preferred to skate “Judging is not as easy as you think” said Koston. “There are some people you’d never see at a contest, it’s cool because it’s a skaters contest, a real one.”
