Jamie Bestwick wins record 5th Straight X Games Gold in BMX Vert

By: Nate Hoppes

Jamie Bestwick achieved something no other athlete in X Games history has done by winning his 5th straight gold medal in BMX Vert, which is also the 8th of his career. Friday's win is already considered one of his most impressive considering the 40-year-old BMX legend fought off a brilliant charges by Australians Steve McCann and Vince Byron.

McCann, 28, came into the vert competition looking for his second gold medal of these X Games after winning last night's BMX Big Air comp in dramatic fashion.

Meanwhile Byron represents a new generation of BMX stars ascending the ranks. The kid from Brisbane is half Bestwick's age.
