It’s June 1, 2012, and the Mammoth Bike Park is Open

Shotgun is among the runs that are now open in the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park

The upside of a low snow year is an early bike season. During a time of year when Mammoth Mountain is usually still open for skiing, this year they are celebrating the earliest opening ever for their bike park. Mammoth closed winter operations on May 28.

The resort announced on Thursday, May 31, that the trails Uptown and Downtown, Big Ring, Lakes Trail, Shotgun, Juniper Ridge, Lower Bullet, Lower Pipeline, Paper Route, and Timber Ridge are all open and in good condition. New trails, the resort says, will open every week until they are fully operating. Day tickets will be sold at a discount until the upper mountain trails are open, and the resort is also selling season passes for $100 off until July 1.

Riding throughout the Mammoth Lakes area is shaping up for the season. The Mammoth Rock Trail, all three sections of Lower Rock Creek, and the trails in Shady Rest are ready to go. For those looking to be part of the solution, Mammoth Lake Trails and Public Access and the New York Deli and Bagel Company will be hosting a trail clean up day on June 2 (aka National Trails Day). Volunteers will help remove logs, debris and trash and learn about maintaining trails from the Inyo National Forest.
