2010 STADI Summer Session

By: Teddy Parker

"We're happy to announce that our Summer Session BMX event on the 13th of August in Helsinki Finland was a big success.

Thus far we've been making the events in Tallinn, Estonia and this was our first move out of the country.

Stadi Summer Session brought together 50 great BMX riders from 13 countries. Bikers from Scandinavia and the Baltics battled out with some of the best pros from the Western-Europe. Some shredders from Russia and Eastern-Europe also made their way to Helsinki last weekend.

The riding, the audience, the weather, the atmosphere, the course - all were amazing and we want to thank everyone involved or present at the event!

Bruno Hoffman took the win, pulling almost everything first try and very clean. His big 540 to fakie from the box helped his score as well. Mad man Ben Hennon placed second. He went higher than anyone and pulled some insane stuff. In the very end of the contest he almost made it count with an insane whip transfer. Sergio Layos got third place with so much style and almost clean runs and tricks including an impressive backwards 50-50 grind to fakie on a big sub-box. Estonians Andres Lainevool was the first name off the podium but his riding definitely held strong with the first three and it was a close call. Andu pulled a lot of good ramp and street stuff includng the only 900 in the contest. Leon Perkins ended up at 5th place. His full-face went almost as high as Hennon and he didn't let the crowd down with his huge flairs and 360-nohanders. Anton Evstifeev made it over from Moscow to place in the last prize place - 6th. He impressed the crowd with flip combos and all-over use of the course. The rest of the finalists weren't much less good so it was hard for the judges to make their choices. It looked like Paul Ryan liked the course a lot as he was everywhere with his nuts street combos. Oskars Zajarskis had a great laid-back style and crazy lip-tricks like whip to nosepick whip. Kevin Kalkoff's runs were fully packed with style and a real treat to watch. Eki Vainikka rode better than we've ever seen at Simpel Sessions and placed 10th as the best Finnish rider.

Simpel Session 11 will take place in the first week of February 2011, as part of the Tallinn European Capital of Culture 2011 programme. We hope to see you all there!"
