Skate Week In Vancouver, Eh

By: Tom Morin

Skate Week
Mayor Gregor Robertson has announced that this week, the week of Go Skateboarding Day, is Skate Week in his city of Vancouver, BC Canada. What a rad mayor! Most of the hoser mayors across the United States, which calls itself "The Land of the Free," can't have enough "No Skateboarding" signs, skate stops and bike cops patrolling skate spots.

"Skateboarding has come so far. Only 10 years ago it was illegal to skateboard in the streets, skateboards were being confiscated and ticketing boarders. Skateboarders were buying boards with no place to use them. We are now are working from a skateboard strategy to give skaters alternatives. In the past ten years we have seen six new parks and a relaxation of the ban on skateboarding in the streets. Vancouver is now a Mecca for skateboarding and people come from all over the world to use our skateboard parks," said Commissioner Sarah Blyth.

There you have it, our friendly neighbors to the North look more peaceful than us, aggressive Americans, once again. Instead of fighting what they don't understand, the government in Vancouver is excepting skateboarding, and welcoming it to it's city. Way to go Mayor Robertson, you for sure know what overseeing all aspects of your cities population is all aboot.
