During last weekend's Red Bull X-Fighters event in Texas, the third stop on the five event freestyle motocross (FMX) series, Metal Mulisha rider Cam Sinclair nudged the sport firmly into the next realm of performance by becoming the first rider ever to land a double backflip during a competitive freestyle run. To be clear, until last week the move had only been pulled by riders like Travis Pastrana in Big Trick competitions, like the X-games, but not in freestyle competition, where riders perform multiple moves on a timed run. What's more, Sinclair pulled the move in consecutive rounds while trying to fend off challenges from the world's best riders, impressing the big Texas size crowd.

Sinclair's feat represents the crossing of another risk threshold in a sport that was already filled with danger, a fact made painfully clear back in February of this year when Jeremy Lusk, one of the sport's favorite sons, died competing in Costa Rica while attempting a single backflip. His loss rattled the FMX world. Fortunately for Sinclair, bruised ankles were all he had to contend with after his hard landing in the semifinals. While not serious, the injury was enough to knock him out of competition, which paved the way for Nate Adams to take the win.

the article mentioned the fact Pastrana did the double in X-Games.....but you guys sit and argue about who and what and you cant congratulate him on the run...i seen one person that did....especially after reading about Jeremy Lusk who lost his life after attempting a SINGLE....come on...it was still a feat you know. Read the article people. Sinclair IS the first to pull a double in a 'freestyle' event. Yes, Pastrana was the 1st to do a double in competition (2006 @ X-Games 12), but it wasn't a 'freestyle event' as the author mentions. Pastrana did it in the Best Trick event (1 run, 1 ramp, 1 trick). A freestyle event is a timed event with multiple ramps and multiple tricks.

they say that Cam Sinclair was the first ever to do the double backflip, what very wrong way to say that, Travis Pastrana was the very first one to do the double backflip, maybe it was in the X-games, not in the red bull freestyle motocross

They both did doubles, wow ooh stop bitchen about it. The headline is wrong, but hey when is the press always right? I look at it from the 909 view, more hype= more drive to exceed. Realize FMX is still in its youth and these people are only the pioneers.

Cam is only the third person to land a double backflip, yahoo news headlines made it sound like the trick had never been done before at all even though its the first in a timed run.
