First place for women and $1000 was awarded to Courtney Cox for an unmatched arsenal of tricks on all the rail jam features throughout the 30-minute finals. Thousands of spectators swarmed the event set up at 1200 Lincoln St. in downtown Denver to celebrate the beginning of winter and support snowboarders who traveled from throughout the US and the mountains of Colorado to compete. The air was chilly and the sun was shining while Cole Linzmeyer grabbed the judges attention, earning 2nd place followed by Cody Boan, who according to Judge Ryan Thompson had the "best looking frontside lipslide and gap to down on the kink rail," placing third overall. The women's competition was stacked with highlights including a Frontside 360 over the "Scion Deathgap" feature and tech tricks on the rails. Lynn Neil grabbed second place and crowd favorite Izzy Lalive came in third. Admissions representatives from the Art Institute of Colorado supplied prospective students with information about their programs throughout the day. The smell of local food venders wafted throughout the crowd while spectators checked out the sponsor village and won prizes or waited to have Salomon Pro's Louif Paradis, Scotty Arnold and Chris Grenier sign autographs and give out stickers and posters. Channels: Snow Bonfire Pipe 2 Pipe 2010 Bombards WindellsGrindTV Newswire, Via Transworld Snow: (July 13, 2010) Words: Adam Hawes Photos: Darcy Bacha Plain and simple, snowboarding in July is just heaven. If you've never been to a snowboard camp or hustled your way through the Mount Hood life, start saving for next summer--worth every penny. It's almost something incomprehensible to the average winter rider, with 70 degree temps, blazing sun, soft landings and perfectly groomed takeoffs awaiting your every drop. Synonymous with the summer experience are the two major camps at Mount Hood--Windells and High Cascade (HCSC)--who've both been bringing this otherworldly experience to the kids for decades. Also synonymous with the sunshine shred is the long-running premiere amateur event series of the summer sessions, the Bonfire Pipe 2 Pipe. 2010 repped the 13th year of the day-long snowboard and skateboard competition, with campers, diggers, coaches and Northwest heavies all coming out in droves for this years' event. New for this season, Bonfire compiled the normally spread-out series into a one-shot day of skating and riding, as well as changing up both the snow and street courses. Instead of a generic rail set-up or one-hit session, Windells built up a pretty stout mini-pipe, featuring jams and jibs along the side. The course finished with a QP feature at the base, with rails, posts and daggers waiting to get creative on. On the skate side, The P2P moved from inside to out, utilizing the brand new, epicly-flowing concrete parks at Windells' home base. On the snow side, crowd-favorite and HCSC digger Brandon Hobush took it far and away, tweaking and hardway-ing to the top of the P2P podium. I honestly can't remember if this is right, but I think I saw this: hardway front three onto the mailbox on the left drop-in, back-one into the straight vertical "wall", entering the 15-foot pipe. Someone needs to check this... but it was insane, either way. Other standouts included Austin Hironaka's frontside to flat entrances, Everest Arnold's consistency throughout the jams, Sawyer Dean's plethora of grabs and flips, Jon Brady's massive stales and Frank Krab's am-status gone pro during the final. Icing on the cake? All was judged by guests Bode Merrill, Desiree Melancon, and Colin Langlois; Scotty Arnold and Salomon TM Java Fernandez running the mics, and some 300 free hot dogs. Legit. After the snow sessions came to a close, the train rolled down to Windells' base camp for the skate comp. In short... either women's skating got way, way better over the last few years, or girls like Kristin Ebeling are just beasts, but either way--the ladies f--king killed. Nollie heels up Euro Gaps? Back disasters on verts and front boards on handrails? What? Much respect to how hard the ladies were charging, for sure. On the men's side, all you gotta know is McTwists, Hosoi Madonnas and Big Flips--all day. Going upside-down while 9 feet above concrete and landing bolts is unreal. There's nothing really else to say about that. Check the photos. In the end, the MVP might just have been Sawyer Deen--one of the few snowboarders who made a competitive run at podium-ing in both events during this years' Bonfire Pipe 2 Pipe. Here are the results.
