Christmas is closing in fast and it's giving us hot flashes. Stores are swarming with crazed and desperate customers, the shops look like someone threw up product all over the place, the lines are curving around the corner, and there are way too many toddlers screaming their faces off. To avoid serious trauma from these types of situations, we've attempted to provide a cheat sheet for gifts in regards to snowboarding. The featured item this week is somewhat of a necessity when it comes to going riding - a snowboard.

For months there has been subtle hints and murmurs that Burton Snowboards was launching a female specific website designed by, created for, and written by girls. Turns out those little whispers held the truth as Burton excitedly unveiled BurtonGirls.com late last week.

The site boasts a boatload of contributors that range from pro girl shredders, to pro girl chefs. While the site is built by a snowboard brand, it's contents will span much more than just snowboarding. Columns include travel, health & beauty, style & culture, apres, and yes, snowboarding.

The site has a fresh design and sleek look and will definitely be a place to keep up on the latest happenings both in the shred world and abroad.

Burton and Mountain Dew have partnered up for The Green Mountain Project, focused on improving sustainability to create new outerwear and apparel made from recycled plastic bottles.

They will be made from 50 % recycled plastic bottles and 50% organic cotton.

BURLINGTON, VT (November 16, 2011) Burton Snowboards and Mountain Dew today announced a new partnership focused on improving sustainability in apparel and outerwear. Specifically, for the 2012 and 2013 product seasons, the two brands are working together to change the way outerwear and apparel are made, by creating sustainable fabrics out of recycled plastic bottles and implementing this material into key products within the Burton line.

The first round of products from this partnership was released today and features a hand-crafted line of t-shirts made from 50% recycled plastic bottles and 50% organic cotton. Part of Burton's Green Mountain Project, which is a line of products created with an eco-influence, the limited edition Burton x Mountain Dew tees include three styles, 'Apparatus', 'Flake', and 'Chairway to Heaven'. Inspired by a Rube Goldberg drawing, the 'Apparatus' style features a drawing of an imaginary machine that is converting plastic bottles into recycled PET pellets, which are 'snowing' down into the shape of Burton's classic mountain logo. The 'Flake' model has a simple, bold hand-drawn snowflake with the word 'Burton' etched in the center. Finally, the 'Chairway to Heaven' tee features a drawing of an empty chairlift intended to depict the peace of the mountains and how much snowboarders depend on nature for their sport. Each t-shirt retails for $27, and the series is available beginning today exclusively at Burton US Flagship stores.


This first collection of t-shirts is just a taste of what Burton and Mountain Dew have planned when it comes to integrating recycled plastic bottles into fabric. For future product lines, the brands will continue to increase the number of styles that use this sustainable fabric, with outerwear being the next key focus. Starting in the fall of 2012, Burton will also expand distribution of these products to Burton Authorized Dealers, so local snowboard shops can carry these new, sustainable outerwear and apparel styles.

Professional snowboarder Danny Davis, who rides for both Burton and Mountain Dew, is backing the new sustainability partnership and had this to say, "For me, being a part of the Burton and Mountain Dew project is just a cool way to help the environment, and it's good to see both companies working together to reduce and reuse some of their materials."

BURLINGTON, VT (November 7, 2011) Burton Snowboards and Lucas film have come together this winter to bring Star Wars snowboard gear to groms everywhere. Just in time for the holidays, Burton is offering a super limited run of two new youth snowboarding products inspired by Star Wars, including a RED youth helmet called the 'Avid Grom R2-D2' and a limited edition series of Chopper Star Wars snowboards for kids.

The Force is definitely with the new Avid Grom R2-D2 helmet, which is designed after everyone's favorite droid sidekick, and features a lightweight in-molded polycarbonate shell. The collectible new RED helmet also includes the Spin Fit System that allows riders to easily adjust the fit and helmet's circumference. Other standard features include Airvanced Ventilation customize venting and a goggle gasket to keep goggles in place. Little groms can impersonate the classic Star Wars character both on and off the mountain since the helmet can be worn on snow, for skateboarding or on bike rides. Available in limited quantities starting November 15th in Burton Flagship stores and snowboard shops around the globe, the helmet is the perfect gift for Star Wars fans.


Available now is the series of limited-edition, youth-sized Chopper snowboards that showcase eight different iconic images from the original Star Wars trilogy, including Yoda, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and the original movie poster. The Chopper Star Wars youth snowboards come in small sizes that range from 80 cm to 130 cm long. Offering the softest flex possible and lifted edges all the way around, the Chopper allows even the lightest riders to master balance and board control. In addition, the three smallest sizes in the series come complete with grippy foot pads and the Riglet Board Reel accessory, so parents can tow their youngest rippers around until they're ready to rock bindings.
