A D V E R T I S E M E N T Contact Info.Headquarters:Torrance, California Sports:Skateboarding, Snowboarding, Motocross, Surfing Website: | Maloof Contender Spotlight #3 Torey PudwillFor this, the third installment of The Maloof Money Cup Contenders Spotlight I give you Torey Pudwill. He finished forth in last year's Money Cup, with many, including myself, feeling he was robbed. He was absolutely killing the course at the OC Fair, which included (in between throwing up from exhaustion) a giant switch kickflip down the Rincon set. ![]() Pudwill is another one of those guys who has just about everything in his repertoire of tricks, and his ability to do them down big obstacles is what really sets him apart. The kid can just go huge, and he takes his technical bag of tricks with him. He just joined the program over at Plan B, which completed hands down the best team in competitive skateboarding: Pudwill, Paul Rodriguez and Ryan Sheckler. As Rodriguez told me in an interview a few months back; Pudwill's addition to the team is a "slam dunk." There is a pretty good chance the winner of the Maloof Money Cup will be a Plan B rider. Hailing from "The Valley" this Los Angeles based skateboarder has been able to walk the fine line between doing the contest thing, but at the same time staying true to his core skateboarding roots, and never losing the respect of "real skateboarders." He consistently gets shots in the mags and will be featured in two of the biggest soon-to-be-released videos; Transworld's Hallelujah and The Plan B Video. The city feel of the New York course should fit Pudwill's style well, he's one of the best on ledges and hubbas. After watching the early rounds of last year's Maloof Money Cup, he was one of my picks to win. Hell, up to until the end he was still in my top 2, he somehow finished forth. Nothing against second place finisher, Tommy Sandoval, and third place finisher, Najah Huston, but I had Pudwill in a Zero sandwich, Zero rider, Chris Cole, in first and Zero rider, Sandoval, taking third. That was last year, and as they say, "history." This is 2010, there's two Maloof Money Cups, Pudwill has personally told me he's doing both, and he's only gotten better. Don't be surprised if you see his name at the top of the standings of a Maloof...or two. Photo courtesy of Matix clothing. Here's a video from last year's Maloof, check out Pudwill's switch kickflip at the beginning (he's wearing an orange DVS shirt). Channels: Skate Weekend At Marty'sWhen I first read the title of this video I thought, oh sh--t Marty died! Sorry, that was lame. Anyway, if you're too young to know, back in the year 1989, there was this movie, Weekend at Bernie's, it's about two guys who find out their boss, Bernie, is dead, and they think it's their fault. I forget the details, but something along the lines of they convince all his friends that Bernie is alive by propping him up like puppet, and apparently there's not one sharp tool in Marty's shed of friends, because no one thinks he is dead. In the end, I think they unravel some insurance fraud plot, or something, and believe it or not, there was a sequel. That being said. In the year 2010 there is this skateboarder named Marty Murawski. He's one of the stars of the much awaited video, Make Friend's with the Colour Blue, by Blueprint skateboards, who released a teaser for the movie called, Make Friends with Marty, about the aforementioned skateboarder. It got a lot of internet love, and so did his part in the Blueprint movie. So, in walked DVS, they're like, "Your on the team." Marty's like, "Nice." To welcome him to the program they made a little video, and it's called Weekend At Marty's. There are no dead bodies being propped up, just Marty and his friends skating, hanging out with his dog, Frankenstein, and just giving you a little tour of Marty's hometown. Hallelujah There's A New Transworld VideoThe crew over at Transworld never disappoints when it comes to their videos, my personal favorite being Modus Operandi. That's why we over here at Grind TV can't wait to check out what TWS, John Holland and Chris Ray have brewing over there. The film is going to be called Hallelujah, and is set to feature a few of the best young guys out there: Torey Pudwill, Tyler Bledsoe, Ryan Decenzo, Pete Eldridge and Taylor Bingaman. I just talked to Pudwill and Colin McKay the other day, and both of them stressed how much time filming T. Puds has been putting into this video. It's set to premier this summer, so get ready.
