  • Morgan Just Wins 2010 World Championships of Skimboarding

Congratulations to Morgan Just for winning the 2010 World Championships of Skimboarding hosted this past weekend at Aliso Beach. Morgan has been killing it for so long and with the absence of injuries nothing held him back from taking the world title this year.

Another congrats is extended to Anna Prophet, winner of the first official professional division for women. May I be so cliche as to say there's something you can tell your grandchildren...

Here's a video of Morgan Just, in case you were wondering what it takes to win such a contest:

  • Los Angeles Skim Contest

Los Angeles has been having the best contests this year. Okay, so they're not REAL contests on the UST or anything, but they have been the most fun for those who showed up and I'm starting to take pride in that. It's important to have the UST type events AND the little local events where skimboarders can do as much as get their name out in the sport. The UST events should be all over the world anyway, like France, Brazil, Australia, etc.

The recent Escondido Beach skim event went down in the most lax way and it was a great, long day of skimming. There was more free skimming to be had than heat skimming, and dudes from all over LA showed up. Hotdogs were grilled up and the vibe was on point. The waves got better and better throughout the day and people stripped themselves of their wetsuits and trunked it by noon time.

In the LOCS (or AMS) division, Denis B took it home by wrapping them up and getting some of the better waves. Morgan B went switch and clocked some other good rides to land in second. In the "PROS" division. Guest skimmer Kevin King would surprise everyone by beating Taylor Cadiz for third. Exile skimmer pro dude guy Aaron Fujimoto skimmed a rather dry but good heat to land in second. And the guy typing all of this sh!t took first.

Best time ever. Can't wait for more of these. And can't wait for more LA skimmers to wake up! Get outside and get involved! If not for the sake of skimboarding in LA then for the hotdogs....

  • Brad Domke Video from Exile Skimboards

Brad Domke is a skimboarder from Florida. Florida. He has taken the skimboarding world by storm and has become many people's favorite overall skimboarder. What I mean by that is they like him in every aspect of skimming, from competition to filming to just free skimming with the guys...

He rides for Exile Skimboards and it's a good thing he does because they pushed him in the best direction... waves. I know Florida gets SOME bumps to ride but Brad needed to develop his ability in all conditions for competition and, more importantly, filming.

He has. Cabo and Wedge, folks. Cabo. And Wedge. So if you have even gotten this far without jumping to the video, you can now watch the video. Thanks To Exile and Olivier for putting this one out and look out for more from Brad and Exile in the future!

  • DVD Review: Stimulus

    Stimulus

Stimulus is the long-awaited release from Exile Skimboards
that we will call the sequel of Bearded. About three years ago, Exile released
Bearded, a skimboarding video that changed the media of skimboarding forever.
Three years later, or in other words today, Stimulus is doing the same thing.
Under the direction of David Levin, and with the help of the entire Exile
family and several others, Stimulus comes out with a bang, dropping jaws and
blowing minds all over the globe.

The quality of riding is, needless to say, excellent and
above and beyond anything we have seen before. Riders like Brad Domke stand out
with technical tricks that have never been done before and George Bryan gets
more Wedge in and outs on a skimboard than anyone I have seen before. Each part
has its own excellence and each rider' (TM)s style of skimming comes out in their
part. Noogie and his fast, powerful skimming are complimented with quick,
choppy editing and an epic type metal song not often found in skim videos. Brandon
Sears has a smoothly edited part with music to match his extremely effortless
    style of riding.

Some argue the music is a buzz kill to the video, some say
they like it as it is a bit more outside of the box. I lean more towards the
thinking outside of the box side of the issue, as Exile used music they saw
fitting for the riders rather than using whatever the kids might like to hear.

My only complaint I have with this video is the choppy
editing, which we saw in Bearded but with a bit less extreme effect. I am of
course not saying to totally take it out but I do get bummed when I see a clip
that looked worth watching more before or after the wave. Especially during
those massive airs or huge carving turns at Wedge or extremely technical tricks
on liners' regardless of if they fall, I love watching that.

The whole production effort is wonderful and takes video
making to a new level for skimboarding. If you wanted an out of ten review, I
would say nine out of ten just because nothing is perfect and maybe this will
inspire them to shoot for nine point five out of ten, whatever that is. Shout
outs to Aaron Peluso, David Levin, and the entire Exile team (family) for
putting out a video that breaks the mold, redefines skimboarding media, and
makes skimmers all over the globe stoked to get outside and hit the waves'
