Portland, OR/USA - February 16th, 2012 - Holden is proud to announce our new tee shirt collaboration with Protect Our Winters (POW) to be released August 2012. Holden artist John Phemister, aka Goo, has designed a unique collection of tee shirts featuring abstract watercolor art titled "The Four Elements". All proceeds from this collection will go towards POW's recently launched Coal Kills Snow coalition. The project is dedicated to shutting down coal mines and spreading education about environmental destruction from mining practices and coal burning. Coal is the number one contributor to global climate change. To stop this, Holden and POW have come together to ensure there is snow to play in for our future generations to come. Holden X Pow tee shirts will be available at holdenouterwear.com and selected shops. "Holden is exactly the kind of partner that we love to work with. They understand that business can lead the environmental solution and we're really excited to focus the proceeds of this partnership on an environmental issue in their backyard, that should be top of mind for all of us", said Chris Steinkamp, Executive Director of POW. "Holden continues to seek out ways to improve our process. Working with POW gives us a whole new way to help. While we are doing what we can to make our products better, we can also take action to raise awareness and help stop others who are not making the best choices for the earth with the help of POW", said Holden CEO, Ben Pruess. "Chris (Steinkamp) and Jeremy (Jones, Founder of POW) have really shown such a passion and made an impact in fight for change. We wanted to support them in the ongoing efforts. At the end this is the only play round we have and we would like to pass it on." Holden, disreputably known for its basic, technical, and stylish collections, has released their new 2011-12 line. It stays on trend with muted but cool colors, simple shapes, and detailing that every rider appreciates. It's probably time to start digging into your savings fund and adding some more core pieces to your on-hill threads. Holden is definitely a good place to start. Head to their website (warning: you might get sidetracked by the Hats on Cats video) to view the collection in all it's glory. Open Caption: February 2011![]() Mikey LeBlanc may be snowboarding's funnyman, but his riding is nothing to laugh at. As one of the most celebrated snowboarders in the world at the turn of the century, Mikey stepped away from Whitey, Mack Dawg, and KidsKnow films, opting to run two companies instead of a generator. That's not to say the dude isn't still a driving force in modern-day snowboarding--he routinely gets more days on-hill than most, and once strapped in, it's both heavy and hilarious. This month's Open Caption contest features Mikey in a clown suit dropping off the roof of Baldface Lodge in interior BC. Whoever submits the best caption will win a brand spankin' new Holden jacket, courtesy of Mikey and friends. All you have to do is write down your wittiest caption in the comment section below and the editors here at SNOWBOARDER will choose the entry that best fits the photo. We're not clowning around this time. We're looking for a laugh, so polish off the punchlines and get after it. Enter your caption... "Bowl A Spare, Save A Pair" B4BC Event Who in their right mind doesn't want to contribute to the cause of "Saving the Boobies"? Lucky Strike 20 City Blvd W Ste G2 Orange, CA Top 10 Fixes To Cure The Shakes (From Your Winter Withdrawals)![]() It's that time of year again. The dreaded last couple of months before winter when we fellow snowboarders begin to feel like alcoholics with a case of the shakes, in search of the nearest liquor store. There is one upside to this time...new snowboard videos! So, in an attempt to reduce my case of the shakes before the 2009 films are released I've made a list of my personal top 10 trailers of the season - the full length films will be dropping this month or next. Enjoy. 10) MFM Inc. and Finger on Da Trigga - "Hard to Earn" - People may have mixed views about MFM but my point is this: a ton of awesome shots and unique camera angles always prove to make a video worth watching and the riding more impressive. Plus, they use a great song...Sam & Dave - Hold on I'm Comin'. Give it a chance. 9) The Background Collective - "Me, Myself, and I - The Todd Richards Story" - Pretty much because Todd Richards is hilarious and anything that is about him will make any of my top 10 lists. It's made by the same director that made "Against the Grain" (the Tara Dakides documentary) but has a completely different feel to it, hence, the ridiculous flashbacks to the 70's.He's been shredding forever and it shows, plus, he's a cool dude. I'm sold. 8) Flow - "Bad Reputation" - This documentary is a) FREE and b) a ridiculous account of 6 weeks on the road with Flow's team. C'mon...it's got a lot of partying...and personally, I think drunkenness contributes to ballsier snowboarding. 7) Ashbury and Holden - "Videograss" - I'm just stoked to see this one because there are so many young insanely good jibbers in it and they continue to blow my mind with their video parts (cough Keegan Valaika). It's got a mellow feel...and ya know what? I like that. 6) Burton - "The B" - Well...its Burton. Burton puts out some pretty sweet stuff...like, always. This year, they felt the need to release different versions of this trailer including a backwards version.Just because of that, they made my prestigious top 10. . 5) Forum Snowboards - "Forever" - Let's be honest, everyone is curious to see the next project that Forum is putting out. After "Forum or Against Em'" you've got to believe that their next film will be equally impressive and earn a permanent spot in your DVD player. 4) Alterna Films - "Elektro" - Whoever was in charge of the opening scene in this trailer had to know that it would win me over, no questions asked. If you haven't seen this trailer yet, simply put; dance party to "Sandstorm" by Darude. That combined with HD and all the riders going huge...well, you can't go wrong. 3) Transworld Snowboarding - "Get Real" - Transworld's 2nd snowboard film ever. I mean, they always seem to have the sickest footage and an unlimited amount of creativity. This trailer had me running around in my outerwear in August. 2) People Creative - "Nice Try" - "Nice Try" has the advantage of winning my number two spot because I love Shaun Mckay and Seth Huot and think they are awesome riders. Also, I'm a huge fan of People's past work with "We're People Too" and "Down with People". This trailer, however, has an amazing scene involving a coin toss while they debate whether or not to stay and get drunk or be responsible and get to Whistler to shred. Underrated. |
