Over 50 amateur riders were invited to compete in the jam format that featured a progressive setup in the middle of town. After four rounds, the top two riders from each heat were "Chosen" for the finals. Canadian rider, Anto Chamberland, 23, from Montreal, was putting down bangers all night and ended up taking the win. Seth Hill, a passionate, up-and-coming snowboarder was throwing down all night and stomped his way into finals. After the contest we chatted with Seth to get his perspective of the Chosen Contest and what it was like to ride in it. Check out what he had to say. Tell me about the Chosen Rail Jam? Going into the Chosen Rail Jam I was a bit skeptical of what was actually going on. I had got he invite from Pat Bridges, and it was a Nike event, so I figured it must be pretty legit. With that said I had heard rumors of them looking for non-sponsored athletes for the event, so I wasn't quite sure. Once the details of the contest were emailed out everyone knew it was going to be legit; 50 solid riders and 5K in prize money changed the whole game. As far as I knew it was just a one time contest to draw some extra attention to the Dew Tour (which it did with nearly 1000 spectators in attendance). But found out it is a 7 stop tour which will be pretty awesome. Put simply the Chosen Rail Jam was awesome time, in front of an awesome crowd with awesome riders. What was the set-up like? The set up was fairly simple but super fun. Almost an exact replica of the West Coast Invitational. It consisted of four features; A very curved "C" rail, a perfect down rail with a kink at the end, a down flat down box, and the "CHOSEN" ice sculpture wall ride. All the tricks left endless possibilities and the riders took advantage of that. What heat were you in? I was in heat 1 of 4. The top 2 riders out of each heat were Chosen for the finals. What was the overall vibe of the event? FUN, it became very obvious as the finals came to a wrap that all the riders were having a blast. As they told us one last drop, and the judges put down their pens it became a sole shred session. None of us wanted to stop riding it was just too fun. Someone legitimately had to stand in the middle and not let any of the riders back up for it to stop. To me that's a pretty obvious sign of success! What were some of the best tricks that you saw? The best trick for the night was awarded to Scotty Vine for a front side 360 into the "C" rail. But almost every rider had a trick that was up there. Ryan Paul with his standard front flip onto the down rail, and definitely one of my favorites Yale Cousino with a hard way switch back side 270 onto the down rail (and trust me its as hard to do as hard to read). What were the girls throwing down? As none of rails were very mellow, the girls were keeping it pretty standard. Madison Blackley won with a half cab onto the down rail, but Courtney Cox was working on some stuff, as well as some very legit 360 out attempts from some of the other riders. Best trick you stomped? I'd have to say my Back Side 540 gap on the down flat down rail was my most impressive as well as best feeling trick of the night. But I was pretty stoked on my back lip across the "CHOSEN" was as well. Favorite feature? At first I had said it was the down rail, but after trying some gaps on the down flat down rail, Id have to say that. Overall impression of the Nike Chosen Rail Jam? FUN, high pace, and a good time for all, definitely one of the best rail jams I've attended. Final results? Anto Chamberland came out on top, Scotty Vine with Best Trick, Hans Mindnich with best trick on the "CHOSEN" wall ride, and Madison Blackley with the win for the women. Party time? Oh yeah, spectators had cocktails in hand and a performance by Yelawolf to follow stoked everyone out. The environment was awesome with all the lights, fog machine, and DJ Spinning beats. The first stop of the Nike Chosen Rail Jam was a success and a good time for all. There's six more stops throughout the season, so head to Nike Chosen page to see how to get you and crew involved. Channels: Snow Nike Chosen: Checking in with "This Must Be The Place" As the Nike "Chosen" contest ramps up, we check in with the crew that's currently leading the charge with the most "Likes" and comments on Facebook. "This Must Be The Place" is made up of four guys living the life in Salt Lake City who joined forces because of their love of snowboarding. We got in touch with Conner Brown, one of the filmers in the group, for the low down on everything about "This Must Be The Place."Check 'em out and head to Nike Chosen to help support this standout crew. Who makes up "This Must Be The Place?" Blaze Kotsenburg, Jesse Gouveia, Andrew Aldridge, and Connor Brown We are just a group of guys from all over who came together in Salt Lake City and decided to film a movie this winter titled "This Must Be The Place." We aren't really a crew, we just all want to film this year and all agree that Salt Lake is the place to be. Where are you from, how old are you guys, and how long have you been shredding? We are all 19 and 20 years old, and we've all been boarding for quite a while now. I'm from Portland, Oregon, Blaze is from Park City, Jesse is from Seattle, and Andrew is from New Hampshire. How did you guys come up with your crew's name "This Must Be The Place?" I was really stressing to find something that I could call the edits I was making and the movie that I am filming this year, and one day I was at my friend Toby's house in Portland, and he just said, "I don't get why you don't just call it 'This Must Be The Place.'" And there you have it. How did the crew form, and how long have you guys been friends? We just all started filming together in the past month, but have been friends for longer. We all decided we wanted to film parts this year, we are all motivated, and we are all going to make it happen. How long have you been filming? I have always liked filming, but I didn't really start taking it seriously until the past couple of months. I saved some money, purchased an HVX, and now we are just waiting for some snow. What are you hoping to get out of being apart of the Chosen Contest? I think that the Chosen Contest is a really great opportunity for my friends and me to promote the video. Obviously, winning or doing well in the contest would be cool, but I think having the contest as yet another motivator for us is great, and I am already excited about how it is going. Do you have any strategies for the contest or for your edits? I really like going out with a group of a few people because everyone seems to play off each other. Nobody wants to be the guy who didn't get a shot. Supporting each other through getting tricks and motivating when something isn't going well is what friends are for. What is your crew's favorite aspect of snowboarding? My friends and I always get a lot of heat about this, but one of the best feelings is hiking a rail, whether or not it is in the streets, and working really hard to get a trick and film it well. To some it may not be as fun as lapping the park, but for us, trying to make something unique and new even in the park is worth it. Do you have a favorite snowboard film, or style of film you'd like fashion your edit after? Favorite snowboard film of all time.... Probably Afterlame. From this year, I would say Shoot the Moon or Retrospect. If Chosen, what would your crew do to celebrate? Well, I can think of a few things we could do with $40,000, but honestly, I would probably just buy some camera stuff and save whatever is left. What pro would you most like to live like and why? The Don. Describe a perfect day with your crew. Wake up early, go get a vanilla latte, go film somewhere, grab some Hector's, log the hams, and go to bed. Abe said, We're stoked about the Chosen contest because it gives us a chance to showcase our skills to a broader audience. We've been a dedicated film/shred crew for over 4 years and have grown a huge fan base, not because of our pro ski/board skills but for inspiring people to get out and do the same. No fancy cameras or film crews- We capture the genuine radness that is shredding with your friends and aspire to be role models for anyone and everyone that wants to do the same. It's awesome to be apart of the contest and to be up there with some big names, people we looked up to when we were starting out - Knife Show to name one - and we're showing up with our own zest and creativity.
