About
Shut was created in 1986 by Rodney Smith as the first ever New York City skateboard company. Shut quickly grew into an underground sensation. The rumors of the unstoppable Shut skateboard team caused much curiosity in the California skateboard circuit as well as the rest of the world. Spearheaded by a gang of unknowns like Jefferson Pang, Sean Sheffey, Coco Santiago, Chris Pastras, Barker Barret, and Felix Arguelles, the Shut Skate Team dominated the burgeoning street skate scene.
Then, in a scenario all too familiar to the Skateboard world, the entire Shut Skate team was lured away by the cash heavy California skateboard establishment. Left alone in its gritty New York City warehouse, Shut soon crumbled away.
Rodney ultimately rebounded from his troubles by starting Zoo York, the infamous New York City skateboard company that was the catalyst for the rampant global expansion of skateboarding in the 1990s. By the early 21st century, Zoo York had grown into a successful behemoth - way beyond what Rodney, Adam Schatz, and Eli Morgan Gesner had ever imagined. And even though they were proud of what they had accomplished, the trio soon began to realize that they had drifted away from where their hearts had always been, right in the streets of New York.
Now, 20 years later, Shut is at it again. Flanked by the original surviving Shut Skates team member, you can expect the return of a lost New York City dynamism' A hard-edged, street smart, original New York City point of view.
