SKATEBOARDER MAGAZINE'S 2ND ANNUAL BEST TRICK & SKATE JAM HELPS A CHILD'S WISH COME TRUE FOR THE MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION® OF GREATER LOS ANGELES San Clemente, CA (April 28, 2011) - SKATEBOARDER Magazine is pleased to announce the 2nd annual Make-A-Wish Foundation Best Trick & Skate Jam Benefit on Saturday, May 28, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stoner Skate Plaza in Los Angeles, California. "With the success of last year's event, we knew we had to do it again this year," said Jaime Owens, Editor of SKATEBOARDER Magazine. "We're hoping it will be bigger and better this year and raise even more money for an incredible cause that we can all get behind." This event will help the Make-A-Wish Foundation grant the wish of a child who has yet to be determined. "We are so fortunate to have SKATEBOARDER Magazine as a wonderful partner," said Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles Corporate Alliances Manager, Brooke Dafesh. "We truly appreciate all of the money raised to help us continue to grant the wishes of children." Last year, the event raised more than $3,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles and enhanced the wish of 18-year-old Brian, who wished to have filmmaking equipment. Not only did he get to use his new camera to film pro skaters at the Skate Jam that day, but he also received filming tips from SKATEBOARDER's own Jaime Owens, met and hung out with pros like Ryan Sheckler, Joey Brezinski, and Lance Mountain who autographed his poster and collab SKATEBOARDER-Black Label deck. This year's event is located at Stoner Park, 1835 Stoner Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90025-1841 and open to the public to attend. The Make-A-Wish Foundation Best Trick & Skate Jam Benefit boasts the opportunity to witness the top names in professional skateboarding compete in a series of "Best Trick" contests. And once again, the fine folks at SPoTlight Productions will be lending their time, talents, and expertise to judge and announce at the event. "They are such a respected and professional crew in the skate industry," Jaime Owens said, "it is a no-brainer to have them involved." A special thanks to Red Bull. Without their involvement, this event would not be possible. Thanks to Anthony Schultz and Ernie Torres for spending the afternoon clocking some footage for us and extra special thanks to Nilton Nieves for letting us show up unannounced and skate his sick ramp. And don't worry, we bought Nilton a new window. Get footage and put it up on the internet as fast as we can. And our friend Ryan Sheckler stopped by the local San Clemente park to start off this new feature and tore shit up for us. Also along for the session: Stevie Perez, Yaje Popson, Tony Pancini and Cyril Jackson to get in on the action. Straight to the Internet: Ryan Sheckler from Skateboarder Magazine on Vimeo. Channels: Skate Mini-Ramp Jamming On The Sunset StripLast Thursday night, the folks at Skateboarder magazine threw the Sunset Rampage, a mini-ramp bash at the Sunset BLVD. staple, The Standard Hotel (pretend "Standard" is upside down like it is on the hotel sign). If you've never been, The Standard is a creative little "crash spot" right smack in the middle of the Sunset strip in Hollywood, complete with things like "giant hand" chairs and trippy bathrooms. And due to the locale it's also a pricey joint, which makes what Skateboarder successfully pulled so, as Mike Carroll would say "hyphy." Speaking of Mike Carroll, the Girl skateboards boss was in attendance along with other skate industry bosses like: Lance Mountain, Sal Barbier, Eric Koston and "The Boss," Andrew Reynolds. Others in attendance were Kenny Anderson, Dylan Rieder, Curran Caples and Vincent Alvarez. Translation: Some serious ripping went down on the strip that night, even industry guys like Gravis TM, Mark Oblow, were getting in on the action. In the end though, the youthful heavyweights of transition skateboarding prevailed: 1. Raven Tershey - $2,500 2. Andrew Langi - $1,500 3. Tom Remilard - $1,000 Photos: Dylan Rieder blunt to fakie by Owens via Skateboarder Magazine. The winners by Mehring via Skateboarder Magazine.
