• Burton NZ Open with Shaun's back to back double corks and a new TTR Tour Leader!

The Swatch TTR 5Star Burton New Zealand Open came to a climactic close today with history making Halfpipe runs from one of the most heavy-hitting rider contingents the NZO has ever seen. US riders and former TTR World Champions Kelly Clark and Shaun White each bagged their first results and Halfpipe titles of the 09/10 season along with 850 TTR ranking points while fellow US pipe shred Mason Aguirre moved into the Tour Lead.

While many riders locked in two results in New Zealand by competing in both the Slopestyle and Halfpipe, White only claimed one TTR result, moving him into World No. 10. Luke Mitrani's second place moved him into World No. 15, while Kokubo's third place finish bumped him into the TTR Top 30. After struggling slightly in yesterday's Slopestyle with a fourteenth place finish, Mason Aguirre managed to bag enough points with a fourth in the pipe to move into Tour Lead ahead of now World No. 2 Sebastien Toutant (CAN). Charles Reid, also from Canada, holds on to TTR World No. 3.

  • Who could take the TTR Tour Lead at the 5Star NZ Open?

    Swatch TTR Championship predictions

Season 09/10 of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour will see its
first event go down in Cardrona NZ this week. And it's a crucial
decider of who will lead the Tour going into the Northern Hemisphere
winter! So with an amazing field of riders taking the trip down under
it will be an amazing show starting with the slopestyle on Friday.

With only the Season-End Bonus Points 08/09 as a buffer, it's all very open - current Swatch TTR World Champion Peetu Piiroinen
is the only rider that has a chance to hold on to the Number 1 Spot by
coming 1st or 2nd in the slopestyle. But last season's NZ Open SS 3rd
and current World Nr. 2 Chas Guldemond will give Peetu a run for his money (Peetu finishes 2nd on average in 5Star slopestole and Chas as well). For Antti Autti
it's popping cherry time at the Open - first appearance of the
experienced Fin at the NZ Part of the BGOS - and with great slope and
pipe skills he will make sure it's in the money and keeps him in that
TOP5 (Antti finishes 4th in 5Star SS on average).

These three riders have the best chance to remain in that TTR TOP3 but with Canadian Charles Reid and half of the FRENDS crew there (Danny Davis, Luke Mitrani, Jack Mitrani and Mason Aguirre) it won't be easy. Ah yeah, and Scotty Lago and Danny Kass are also somewhere on the island.

Check more of those stats and their career results with the latest TTR website release v1.x

For the women it's between the following girls -
all of them with great slopestyle skills to push 08/09 Tour Champion
    Kelly Clark off her throne:

    • Jamie Anderson (countless SS 5&6Star; SS titles incl. the NZ Open SS 08 and 3rd in 5Star SS on average)
    • Lisa Wiik (winner of the BEO 2009 SS comp and 4th in 5Star SS on average)
    • Silvia Mittermueller (winner of the 5Star Canadian Open SS and 5th on average in 5Star SS)
    • Sarka Pancochova (still lacks consistency but managed to finish 7th in 5Star SS on average in her career)
    • Chanelle Sladics (won the 5Star Asian Open SS 2009 and 5th on average in 5Star SS)

  • The New Zealand Open Lowdown!

    New Zealand Open 2009
The 2009/2010 Swatch TTR World Tour is officially underway with the first major event of the Southern Hemisphere leg will take place next week. The 5Star Burton New Zealand Open kicks off at Cardrona Alpine Resort on Tuesday, August 11th 2009 where riders will be greeted with a 22-foot pipe and a world-class slopestyle course giving competitors two opportunities to lock in a 2009/2010 Swatch TTR Ranking result.

The Burton New Zealand Open has served as the major TTR Tour kick-off event for the past four years and is a perfect opportunity for riders to get a jumpstart heading into the Northern Hemisphere winter. With 850 Swatch TTR Ranking points and a $50,000 USD prize purse up for the taking, riders from around the globe will be looking to secure a
    piece.

2008/2009 Swatch TTR World Champion, Peetu Piroinen, recently confirmed his attendance at the event and will be defending his World No. 1 position from the likes of World No. 2 Chas Guldemond (USA), World No. 3 Antti Autti (FIN) and World No. 6 Charles Reid(CAN). The tight-knight Frends crew, all of which are ranked in the Top 30 on the TTR Tour, will also be upping the ante at this year's New Zealand Open with Danny Davis, Luke Mitrani, Jack Mitrani and Mason Aguirre all slated to make an appearance.

The women's side of the competition field is stacked with some heavy Swatch TTR Tour competitors including 2008/2009 TTR World Champion and current World No. 1 Kelly Clark (USA) who will definitely be a standout in the 22-foot pipe. Current World No. 3, Jamie Anderson (USA), is back at the New Zealand Open looking to clinch her second-consecutive Slopestyle title. Norwegian rider and current World No. 2, Lisa Wiik, turned some heads last season on the tour and is sure to be a force at the event. European Top 10 TTR riders, Silvia Mittermueller (GER) and Sarka Pancochova (CZE) are all due to be present in New Zealand making for some strong competition.

The Burton New Zealand halfpipe finals will take place on Friday, August 14th and slopestyle finals on Saturday, August 15th 2009. All semi-finals and finals action will be broadcasted on Go211.com via webcast. And, be sure to check ttrworldtour.com for videos from the event and the latest standings on the Swatch TTR Tour.

After the Burton New Zealand Open wraps up, the Southern Hemisphere leg of the Swatch TTR will continue in Australia with the 4Star Stylewars and the 3Star Boost Mobile Sno Sho. The Tour will return to New Zealand for the 3Star Billabong BroDown before turning to the Northern Hemisphere, which is only a short time away.
