"What began as a hobby of a motocross racing teenager named Troy Lee, painting helmets in his parents garage for his friends, has grown to become recognized as the premier custom helmet paint shop in the world. TLD is the place where "The World's Fastest Racers" go when only the best will do.

    A Message from Troy

For over 25 years, I have been customizing helmets "For The World's Fastest Racers." Our relentless commitment to creating products that exceed the cutting edge style, design and quality, has given us the reputation as an innovator in many different racing fields. Troy Lee Designs has since expanded into a full force operation, offering a product line from helmet visors and graphics, to casual wear and the all new Speed Equipment Racewear.

I have to thank all the amazing athletes that we have worked with over the years, and welcome the new ones that will become part of our team. From F1 to Indy to NASCAR, Motocross to Enduro to Freestyle, Dirt Track to Road Racing, MTB to BMX and on down the line, we have been fortunate to work with the best in the world. We at TLD appreciate the fact that every day the racers get out there and put it all on the line. They are my motivation to hop out of bed every morning and smile all the way to work!

Never in a million years did I think I'd have my own race team. With racing, you're forced to take the good with the bad, and the emotion is unlike anything I've ever experienced. Just like the sense of fulfillment and achievement I've felt creating this business.

I work with amazing people. My passionate and talented employees have created a body of work that has many convinced we're the most creative and artistic company in all of racing.

I have a wonderful wife who endures the craziness I put her, and probably everyone through. I have two gifted kids Max and Carly, and a new set of twins Dylan and Maya. And I've been able to make a living out of the two things I enjoy most: racing and art. They say that great art comes from strong emotion. Well, what I'm feeling right now is about to make my eyes well up." - Troy Lee

Making it's first appearance of the year was the #101 TLD Honda and it's rider, Ben Townley. While Ben never had any intention of racing AMA Supercross this season, he took a break in the New Zealand action that he's been dominating to come up and get a feel for his new team. The TLD guys, led by David Pingree, will support Townley for the entire National Motocross season in his bid to get a 'privateer' machine on the podium for series points. All we can say is: Take it easy in your preparation Ben, we'd hate to see your season compromised by a training injury.
Wow, what a weekend the Lucas Oils/TLD/RedBull/Honda boys had this weekend, huh? With Wil Hahn making his first ever podium with a solid 2nd place in the Lites main, and teammate Cole Seeley not far behind in 5th, it was almost an unbelievable finish for (nearly) 3rd tier team. While these guys are clearly supported pretty well by Honda and Pro Circuit, they certainly aren't on the level that, say, Geico or even Star/DNA are. Think more along the lines of MotoConcepts Racing and that's in line with the TLD squad. Regardless, full props go out to both Wil and a truly remarkable night by Seeley, who are sitting 3rd and 7th in points, respectively.
Wil Hahn is probably the story of the weekend in the Lites class, as he made his first-ever podium. He’s gone 5-4-2 this season, so there’s only one more step to go for him (up). The kid’s always been fast, but this season his team/program/fitness/whatever really seems to be clicking. In fact, both TLD riders - Hahn and Cole Seely - made the top 5, which is a pretty incredible feat considering Seely’s never even been close to that good before.
There are a slew of guys in the Lites class making main events that nobody’s really been talking about, but we’re going to change that. Lucas Oils/RedBull/TLD’s Cole Seely is one of them. For sure somewhat of an unknown commodity, Seely’s considered to be fast, dedicated and a potentially great rider that’s finally sowing his oats under Pingree’s tutelage at TLD. Seely, along with his teammate Wil Hahn, made up a freight-train of superfast Lites contenders that stayed within a few seconds of one another for the entire main event. Eventually ending up 6th after getting passed by Broc Tickle with just a few laps to go, Seely seems to belong in this fast pack and could easily sneak in a podium visit if the cards fall his way later in the series.
After a rough weekend in Anaheim, this time Chris Blose made the Supercross main event. Last year at this time, Chris was blowing everyone’s minds with the rides he was putting in on the TLD/Honda team in the Lites class after getting a last minute call to join. This time he’s on a Honda again, albeit a 450 under the Hart & Huntington tent with teammate Matt Boni. Apparently Chris went down at some point in the main event, but gathered himself up and toughed it out for a 16th (right behind Stewart!). Chris should continue to improve - the bikes are good, he is healthy and he has the skills to get closer to the top 10.
This is David Pingree at full speed on his TLD CRF450 at the inaugural Michigan AMA Supermoto. This was my second supermoto race ever, and they’re a lot of fun to shoot. Ping just looks awesome here, and I think he ended up winning or 2nd place behind Mark Burkhart, if I’m not mistaken. Canon 1D Mark 2, 300mm. (Jeff Kardas Photo)
