Vans and DQM proudly opened the doors to the Vans DQM General retail store in SOHO on Thursday, September 15 and capped off the first day of business with a party for several hundred friends and family that evening. Located at 93 Grand, the Vans DQM General is Vans' first store in Manhattan and the co-branded project with local skate and streetwear purveyor DQM is the first of a kind in the United States for Vans. Expect to find the newest cut & sew and accessories from DQM, the latest from Vans across several lines including our Classics, California, Surf, OTW, Skate and Vault collections and a nice selection of boards, wheels and trucks - all in a setting that beautifully nods to SOHO's unique heritage and personality.
Vans is the original action sports brand since 1966 with more than 250 stores and a global network of retailers across more than 70 countries that carry Vans footwear, apparel and accessories. www.vans.com
DQM is a leading New York-based streetwear purveyor and skateshop. Since opening for business in 2003, DQM has grown to become not only New York's premiere location for sneakers, menswear and skate goods, but also a fully-fledged brand in its own right, with a complete seasonal collection of clothing and accessories sold in select locations around the world. www.dqmnewyork.com
The Vans DQM General is located at 93 Grand Street in the heart of New York's coveted SOHO district. The General, Vans' first company retail foray in Manhattan, brings together two of the most prolific names in contemporary streetwear - one rooted in Southern California surf and skate, the other in New York skate and street - in creating a unique retail concept carrying both original, exclusive co-branded DQM for Vans footwear and crafted apparel as well as select Vans and DQM premium product for men, women and kids. The 2,600 square foot Vans DQM General is deeply rooted in the heritage of its SoHo neighborhood and its past life as haven for skateboarders, punks, artists and risk-takers of all kinds.

Vans worked closely with Joel Tudor to develop a series of events to showcase longboarding in its purest aesthetic continuing to push the envelope on traditional longboarding technique. 16 of the best longboarders in the world ride 12-lb, single fin leashless boards judged on style and nose riding for a $10,000 purse.
The tour was introduced last year at the East Coast Surfing Championships in Virginia Beach and has since take place at legendary Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY, Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz, CA, and Playa Salinas in Salinas, Spain and now Malibu.
Alex Knost known for his unique ability on a log took home $4,000 for his efforts. Justin Quintal earned $3,000 for second, Christian Wach $2,000 for third and Harrison Roach made $1,000 for fourth.

For over 5 decades he was one of Hollywood's finest.
The icon passed away at the age of 74 in May 2010 and will continue to live on through epic films such as "Rebel without a cause", "Easy Rider", "Apocalypse Now" and "True Romance", just to name a few.
And now Dennis Hopper lives on through yet another medium. Although less known for his photography and paintings but by no means any less talented. Vans got together with Hopper before he became an easy rider in the sky to collab. and create this limited edition collection of footwear and apparel featuring his brilliant art work.
They will be available exclusively at Urban Outfitters Nationwide Fall, 2011.
