LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (September 17, 2014) – Tuesday night the inaugural StokesMe Bowl-A-Rama saw more than 200 people from the surf industry come together to raise funds for the 12 surf-related SIMA Humanitarian Fund beneficiaries. More than $40,000 was raised at the sold-out event.
The StokesMe Bowl-A-Rama was held at the Costa Mesa 55 Tavern + Bowl on Tuesday, September 16 and saw surf industry brands, retailers, athletes and StokesMe beneficiaries go head-to-head in the bowling tournament. Brands present included Rip Curl, Hurley, Quiksilver, Vans, Agenda, Arnette, Electric, Innovative Systems, L*Space Swimwear, Pipeline to a Cure, O'Neill, Reef, Salt Life, Sanuk, Stance and Surfline. The night's emcee was Martin "Pottz" Potter and also saw appearances from surfers including Stephanie Gilmore, Bianca Buitendag, Freddy Patacchia and Travis Logie bowling for Quiksilver; Malia Manuel bowling for Sanuk; Alex Knost and Dane Gudauskas bowling for Vans; and Jamie Mitchell, Kai Lenny and Green Day drummer Tré Cool bowling for Pipeline to a Cure. As the night concluded, Team Pipeline to a Cure won the title of 2014 StokesMe Bowl-A-Rama Champions with Team Agenda coming in second, and Team Rip Curl getting third place. Team L*Space proudly accepted the Gutter Ball Award with the overall lowest score of the night!

The bowling night was only one of many initiatives taking place throughout the month of September for the StokesMe campaign. While brands supported StokesMe by bowling, 76 hand-picked retail doors are supporting StokesMe by launching the add-a-buck program in their stores. Throughout the month, retailers are asking their customers to add a dollar to their purchase in order to donate to StokesMe. In addition, there are a variety of homegrown activations by individuals, brands and retailers. Funds raised go directly to the SIMA Humanitarian Fund beneficiaries, surf-related humanitarian organizations dedicated to improving people's life, health and/or welfare.

The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) is the official working trade association of more than 300 surf industry suppliers. Founded in 1989, SIMA is a non-profit organization that serves to promote awareness of the surf industry and participation in the sport of surfing through public relations efforts and a variety of services, educational programs and research. In addition, SIMA actively supports oceanic environmental efforts through its 501(c)(3) charitable environmental foundation, the SIMA Environmental Fund. In the past 24 years, SIMA’s Environmental Fund has raised more than $6.5 million for environmental groups seeking to protect the world’s oceans, beaches and waves. The SIMA Humanitarian Fund, also a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, was established in to award grants to various surf or boardsport related social and humanitarian non-profit organizations whose efforts are focused on improving the quality of life, health and/or welfare of people.
