‘World of Adventure’ explores American bison restoration efforts

This week, “World of Adventure” reveals the work of the National Wildlife Federation, alongside tribal leaders at Wyoming’s Wind River Reservation, to restore wild bison back to their homeland.

The American bison, named the U.S. national mammal, used to roam the American West in abundance with a population of 60 million, yet in the early 20th century there were less than 100.

The project is one that has been going on for decades, but to the Eastern Shoshone tribe, and many others, there is nothing more important.

Through this restoration project the healing is two-fold: The tribe hopes to revitalize their culture along with the iconic wildlife population.
