The first day of action at this year’s Gatorade Surf Classic, live from Praia da Saudade, Sao Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil, running September 5th - 7th. It’s a 3 star WQS event, down from 4 stars last year. The heat sheet for the event reads like a virtual database of Brazilian pro surfers, with some current WQS contenders, some past World Tour warriors, and other big names in Brazilian surfing. With the way the Brazilians have been dominating many recent WQS events, the 91 Brazilians in this event should put on quite a show over the next three days. Oh yeah, and there’s also a token Uruguayan and one Australian, just to keep things interesting.
