Sports:Snowboarding | The Latest on Kevin Pearce's InjuryAs of Monday, January 4th, Kevin remains in critical condition with a severe brain injury in the Intensive Care Unit at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City. "Jan 4, 10:00pm: Kev continues to make small positive steps forward. Overall a good day. Thanks again- Adam" Adam Pearce, one of Kevin's brothers, has been keeping all of Kevin's friends and fans updated by posting on the wall of the Well Wishes for Kevin Pearce fan page on Facebook. An incredible amount of support and best wishes for the injured rider continues over the social media network as the Well Wishes for Kevin Pearce fan page reached over 13,000 "fans" today. This is a true testament to Kevin's unwavering kindness, popularity and celebrity throughout the snowboard industry. On Saturday night one of Kevin's Neurointensivist doctors (a doctor with a special education and training in critical neurological conditions) reported this, "Kevin sustained a severe traumatic brain injury. He is currently in the intensive care and in critical condition, but stable and has not needed to undergo surgery at this time. He is intubated and being kept sedated. The focus over the next week will be watching for any swelling in his brain and keeping his brain pressure normal. Kevin has a long recovery ahead of him." Doctors, close friends and family are keeping quiet about any long-term prognosis, but the whispers and general feeling during practice at the Grand Prix Halfpipe today (where many of Kevin's best friends and competitors are competing this week, and where Kevin had planned on coming to secure his spot on the U.S. Olympic Team) is that it is too early to say if there will be any permanent damage. As with many brain injuries it is hard to know early on exactly what the recovery will be and how long it could take. Only time will tell. One thing is for certain though, the positive energy and outpouring of support from all of Kevin's fans and friends are reaching him and helping him through this tough time. Adam posts "[Kevin] is extremely determined and can definitely feel all of your love and support. Still can't thank all of you enough." Kevin is in the hands of some of the best and most progressive neuro-doctors in the country at the University of Utah Hospital, and he has been surrounded by family and frends since the accident. We wish Kevin all the best and will continue to update on his status as news comes in. In the meantime, please visit the Well Wishes for Kevin Pearce Fan Page" on Facebook by clicking here.
