One can only imagine what kind of discussion the marketing executives at Target had when deciding to call an over-sized dress the color “manatee gray.”
It's actually the perfect color, as it really does resemble the color of a manatee. Unfortunately, the fact it is an over-sized dress also resembles the hugeness of the animal itself, one that is often referred to as a sea cow. They can weigh up to 1,300 pounds.
Well, this didn't go over well with one shopper named Susan Clemens, who tweeted that standard sizes are Dark Heather Gray and that plus-sized women get Manatee Gray. She added the hashtag #notbuyingit.
Target was quick to respond, calling it an unintended oversight and apologizing "for any discomfort that we may have caused," according to TODAY.com.
"The 'manatee gray' version of the dress in question, Mossimo Women's Plus-Size Kimono Maxi Dress, no longer appears on Target's website," TODAY.com reported.
But the L.A. times noted that Target also has men's short-sleeve T-shirts in manatee gray, in sizes ranging up to XX Large.
Hmmm. Well, what can we say? It's a nice shade of gray.
