Snowboarder captures harrowing slide down avalanche on video

Elie D’Aoust of Nelson, British Columbia, was snowboarding in some trees when suddenly he was caught up in an avalanche, one he happened to video with his helmet camera. Bits of snow started tumbling in front of him before he was caught up in the avalanche, crashed through a fallen tree trunk and some tree branches, and basically swam down the river of snow. He posted the video on Facebook. Notice how fast the snow is moving near the end as he glided to a stop:

D’Aoust was fortunate that it was a rather small avalanche and that he remained atop of the snow, as it looked like nobody else was around the unidentified snowboarding area.

Based on comments on his Facebook page, D’Aoust, who was groaning most of the way down the hill, suffered some scratches, a swollen face and a very swollen arm.

But he lived to write this alert on his Facebook page: “Haha. My vid made it on the Contour [camera] fan page, not for the best reason, though.”
