Travis Pastrana makes record leap into the New Year

In Long Beach, Calif., New Year's revelers don't have a ball that drops. But this year they did have action sports icon Travis Pastrana flying his rally car across Rainbow Harbor. Pastrana was the center attraction at this year's Red Bull New Year No Limits event. He celebrated the arrival of 2010 by successfully shattering the old car-jumping record of 171 feet after launching his tiny Red Bull sedan off the Pine Street Pier going 90 mph. Pastrana officially flew his car 269 feet over the water before landing hard on a floating barge and skidding into a barricade that prevented him from going into the drink. The X-Games legend (9 gold medals) made his name in motocross, but Pastrana's 450 HP Subaru WRX STI rally car has become his vehicle of choice. He's also become one of the most renowned daredevils. When he was 18 years old he jumped his motorcycle into the Grand Canyon. A few years later he jumped out of a plane without a parachute. After spending months of trial and error in the desert training for this stunt, Pastrana thrilled the crowd by sticking the landing perfectly.

It was the defending class champion Ryan Villopoto that made it look easy and ran away with the win at the opening round of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series at Anaheim Stadium in Southern California. Are we going to see a repeat of Villopoto's domination at Phoenix and beyond? 12.2 seconds behind Villopoto was TwoTwo Motorsports rider Chad Reed who tried to minimize the gap but was not able to do so before the checkers. Travis Pastrana is famous for: AMA Motocross Champion 125 and 250, Supercross Champion 125 and 250, X-Games Gold Metal(s) Winner in MotoX and Rally, Freestyle Motocross Champion. I've been watching Travis since he was 14 years old.

Uh, sweet name "killerklown"...so inventive. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past decade, this "jerk" better known as "the wonder boy" if you're going by nicknames, Travis is famous for his incredible skill and mastery racing and riding a motocross bike (his accolades are too lengthy to even begin listing) and for being a superb and dedicated athelete. He is also one of the most genuine people you will ever meet. I realize your baser instincts is to speak from a place of jealousy, but maybe try a different approach.
