The FIM Women's Motocross World Championship is the only series which is still to be decided, and Fermo will be the last and crucial round of the Championship. Stephanie Laier lands in Italy being the current red plate holder with 39 points advantage, which leaves the Livia Lancelot with not many chances to revalidate his 2008 World Title.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing MX2's Laier could have won the Title in the previous round in Loket, but some cramps on the right part of her arm made her struggled more than usual in the Czech track. Finally, the German was third overall and this weekend in Fermo will have her last opportunity to hand KTM the fourth Title of the season, which would be her second FIM Women's Motocross World Title in a row.
Second in the Championship is KTM HDI MX's Lancelot who achieved her maiden overall victory of the season in Loket and is now ready to race against Laier and put things difficult for the German leader. Lancelot knows that conquering the 2010 World Title is almost impossible, but this is Motocross and unexpected things can happen, so the French is going to fight for the Championship until the last chequered flag.
Diga Racing Team's Franke was second overall in Loket and moved up two positions in the Championship. She is currently third ahead of Papenmeier and Fontanesi but unfortunately, Franke will not be able to defend his third place in the Championship as she broke her L4 vertebra while racing last month in Belgium and she is still recovering from the injury.
Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2's Papenmeier, who was fourth overall in the last round in Loket, will have the chance to enter the top three this weekend in Fermo as she is just fourth points behind Franke. Papenmeier won her home round in Teutschenthal so she will head Fermo looking forward to achieving her second overall victory of the season.
Completing the top five is Chiara Fontanesi who will try to race for her maiden victory in her home track in Fermo this weekend. The Italian did not have a very good weekend in the last round in Loket finishing eighth overall but in previous races of the series has proved that she has the speed and the technique to ride with front riders.
Sixth in the point standings is Natalie Kane, followed by Marielle De Mol and Elin Mann. Ninth is Elien De Winter and completing the top ten is home rider Franscesca Nocera, who achieved a solid fifth overall position in Loket.
