A spectator talking on a cellphone while watching motocross riders take turns jumping over a muddy creek gave evidence contrary to the popular belief that talking on a cellphone is a distraction.
One rider jumped the creek, lost his balance on the landing, and started to slide his motorcycle toward the man on the cellphone. Clearly the spectator was paying close attention as to what was occurring right before his eyes, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to do this:
The man on the cellphone paused his conversation just long enough to jump over the sliding motorcycle and avoid disaster. Spectators behind him were saved by the tree, which stopped the motorcycle so they didn't have to jump over it.
Meanwhile, the man on the cellphone continued as if nothing happened.
The incident occurred during a Grand National Cross Country event at Powerline Park in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where mud and bloopers are apparently synonymous, particularly at the creek jump, which attracted a large crowd.
The Blooper Dudes XC Bike and Quad Bloopers team was on hand to capture the muddy mess and just happened to catch the incredible dexterity of the man on the cellphone on video, which it posted on Facebook last week (it was subsequently posted on LiveLeak on Sunday).
The Blooper's caption read: "Oh, I'm just jumping dirt bikes while I'm on my phone, no big deal."
And it really wasn't.
