Legendary snowboarder Shaun White gave a preview of a new halfpipe trick he is practicing for the Sochi Winter Olympics, and he isn’t too concerned about unveiling it before the competition.

“Just because you can see the trick doesn’t mean it’s easy to duplicate,” White told the Associated Press.

The trick is called a frontside double-cork 1440 and it resembles the Double McTwist 1260, which earned him Olympic Gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games, only he is adding another half revolution of twist inside the two head-over-heels flips.

“Just that subtle a change, it throws the whole axis of the trick off,” White told AP. “It’s a completely different thing.”

Video of White completing the frontside double-cork 1440 can be seen in his latest GoPro video with the trick starting around the 2:30 mark:

After successfully pulling off the trick, he was greeted with congratulatory hugs and high-fives by his team.

“Just knowing before the takeoff, that’s where the trick is done, before you drop in, you got to know you’re doing it,” White said in the video. “It’s just a level of commitment. You have to be in the right mindset. You can’t just step to some of the heaviest tricks you’ve ever done on any day. It’s gotta be like, all right I want it today, today’s the day.

It feels good. It feels like you’ve definitely set your goals and accomplished them.”

It is uncertain whether White will attempt his frontside double-cork 1440 at the next Olympic qualifying event January 8 to January 12 in Breckenridge, Colorado. But White, who has been nursing a left ankle sprain over the first two qualifying events, told AP, “It’s time to just do those tricks.”

Stay tuned.
