Lion attack at Las Vegas hotel caught on video

By: Pete Thomas, GrindTV.com

A trainer at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino is nursing a leg wound that required stitches, and probably still wondering what he did to provoke last week's sudden attack by a 400-pound male lion as he and another trainer stood inside the Lion Habitat exhibit.

The frightening episode was filmed by a honeymooning couple and posted Sunday on YouTube, where nearly 7,000 viewers have watched the maned lion lunge at its victim and bite his leg, then stalk him as he fled.

A second trainer helped distract the lion during the incident, and a female lion rushed in and seemed to be trying to calm the male lion.

Though the incident is under investigation it might be that that the lion was merely playing in a rough manner. Renowned wild animal expert Jack Hanna told "Good Morning America" on Wednesday: If that was an attack, it would've been over with in about five-tenths of a second."

Grand Canyon bans sales of bottled water in new NPS plan

The ban on less-than-one-gallon bottles and different kinds of boxes is aimed at eliminating the single biggest source of litter in the park

It was ugly. It was public. And it involved controversy over whose park it is anyway, Coca-Cola's or ours, but in a plan just approved by John Wessels, National Park Service Intermountain Regional director, Grand Canyon National Park will end the sale of water sold in disposable bottles within 30 days. The park has free water stations available where visitors can fill reusable water containers.

Obviously, the Lion was playing.

If that was an 'attack', the trainer would be dead.

I would play with my trainers the same way if I were a lion confined to anything smaller than...um...lets say....the wild!!! It has to get pretty damn boring in there for that cat no matter how many females you give him for companionship & no matter how many juicy steaks you feed him,he's still a wild animal with wild animal instincts! I'm surprised the female didn't pounce on the other trainer....you know....just for fun....idiots!

Here kitty kitty, I bet the rookie trainer locked eyes with the lion and maybe because of how tall the trainer was the lion felt like he was being challenged for the Alpha male spot. You get what im saying? the trainer looked down at the lion he should have been sitting and been at a lower point then the lions head.
I dunno, im not a lion expert but thats what i will do when i get locked into a cage of ,BIG but pretty ,vicious but nice kitty's. Unless someone who knows about lions advises me to do something different . Hopefully i will never have to experience a situation like that. Beautiful animals though, just gorgeous.
