Just about every cyclist has endured scary moments with careless motorists who pass at a dangerously close distance, and most motorists have become angry, at times, when cyclists wander too far into the road and hold up traffic. But most of those who watch the accompanying video probably will side with the cyclists against the SUV driver whose incessant honking is pure and unnecessary harassment of the cyclists, who were as far to the side of the road as they could be (footage stabilizes at about the 40-second mark).
This happened Sunday in Boulder County, Colorado, and KMGH News reports that the Colorado State Patrol is interviewing witnesses and the cyclists to determine whether charges should be filed.
The driver of the SUV easily could have passed safely and with plenty of room to spare.
“What’s even worse is we saw him approaching from behind and to be polite we ride single file to give him as much road as possible, as we did with every other car we encountered on this road east of Longmont, Colorado,” stated one of the cyclists, with the YouTube username Dfriel1. “This guy was so intent of bugging us that he backed up traffic behind him and cars had to pass him on a double yellow line. It seems he was the one obstructing traffic, not us.”
The cyclists, who on Monday said other cyclists have come forward saying they had experienced similar encounters with the same driver, even recorded the license plate number: Colorado 893 EKG.
