The images accompanying this post are sure to produce entirely different reactions.
Both are of 25-year-old beach volleyball player and model Morgan Beck, before and after she was struck in the eye by a golf ball hit by her husband, legendary skier Bode Miller.
Thankfully for Beck, she will keep the eye and has been in good spirits, if her Twitter feed is an indication.
The first tweet, after the accident in San Diego, on Wednesday: “I’m not feeling so hot. Line drive to the face today with a golf ball from my darling husband. I still love (him) #ouch.”
The next, a day later: “Feeling better today. Still can’t see out of left eye but I am getting some feeling back in my face.”
These were from her hospital bed, which are too short for the tall athlete, who joked: “Positive note: these short beds put me in perfect position for endless foot rubs.”
Pretty admirable attitude for a woman who received 50-plus stitches.
Beck had been wearing glasses when the ball struck, and the sturdy frame may have helped save her eye.
Miller, who undoubtedly is feeling a little down about injuring his new wife, had plenty to say on his Twitter feed as well:
“Thanks @kaenon for saving my wife’s eye. An amazing lens and frame to take a 160 mph line drive direct hit and not shatter.”
Miller had previously tweeted: “Hit wife w golf ball. #worstfeelingever.”
One more: “She’s a trooper, the docs did a great job, thanks @ucsdhealth.”
Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery, and for a much smoother round the next time the two are out on the links.
