When the fish are so plentiful and fishermen are catching them one right after another, you’ll often hear them say, “It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.” Incredibly, the literal definition of that phrase was captured in this “insane” Asian carp video featuring two overwhelmed bowfishermen:
Point Blank Bowfishing posted the YouTube video from one day out on the river. Its operation is based in central Illinois near Peoria, where flying Asian silver carp have taken over the Illinois River and its tributaries (among other places).
Silver carp get jumpy when motor boats pass by and if there is a huge school around, the air becomes filled with Asian carp, making them easy targets for bowfishing, the latest craze involving these invasive creatures.
We’re talking extremely easy targets, as the video shows. The professional outfitter Point Blank Bowfishing says this about what to expect:
I can guarantee as many shots as you can pull your bow back in a day. At the very least you will go home with a memory of being one of the select few that have gotten to participate in this new insane action packed sport. Not to mention a set of clothes that your wife will not allow back into your house.
Yes, remember, when planning a bowfishing trip for these smelly, messy silver carp, one needs to wear a set of old, throw-away clothes and take an extra set of clothing. Wearing a helmet might not be a bad idea, either.
