  • Jeremy Lusk In Critical Condition

In horribly crappy news, moto superstar Jeremy Lusk is in critical condition at Calderon Hospital after a terrible fall at the X Knights contest in San Jose, Costa Rica last night. He is currently in a medically induced coma after a 5 hour surgery to treat a subdural hematoma on the brain. For those of you who dont already have your phd, this means bleeding in the brain, caused by serious head trauma.

As of now, doctors are waiting for the swelling in his brain to subside before they can assess the damage and hopefully move him back to a hospital in the US. His wife Lauren, and several friends, including Brian Deegan, flew to Costa Rica to be by his side today.

An emergency fund to help defer the costs of Lusk's medical care has already been established and is set up to take donations immediately. Visit athleterecoveryfund.com and click on the ' make a donation' button. So far, x-rays on his neck and spine have been negative. He under-rotated an Indian Air Backflip causing him to slam into the dirt head frist. The video of the crash is below. Not for the faint of heart.

I don't watch much X-treme sports, but from what I did watch he was one of the best. Very sad indeed, RIP.

Does anyone know if they might make this sport a little safer, or will this risk always be there? I know in practise they use a lot of foam pits to protect the riders.

My prayers go to the family and friends, it's a hard deal but use it for strength.
It is a tragic event but if we sat on the couch, what a stupid life that is. Do what you love, live life to the fullest and have no regrets doing what you love. The choice was his and he weighed out the price. You get nowhere in life without some risk. Remember Jeremy with love and great memories
in your hearts... some of you other weirdos get a life and stop condemning him.

Heres the deal, I see that many have taken offence to the term used to despribe someones feelings of this athelete! I dont believe that they ment any disrespect, but total RESPECT for that term fallen soldier... for those that have served I respect and am grateful that you spend your life protecting our "America's" freedoms, but I have done some research and the term soldier generally means active, loyal, militant follower of an organization, but if you look into the history of the word "soldier" it actually means " man that fought for pay" or even "working for pay." see below... He may not have "fought" for freedoms that military soldiers do, but he fought to be one of the best he could be in his sport,so with that being said, to the Fallen Soldier of Motorcross. R.I.P. Jeremy Lusk!

      WORD HISTORY:
Why do soldiers fight? One answer is hidden in the word soldier itself. Its first recorded occurrence is found in a work composed around 1300, the word having come into Middle English (as soudier) from Old French soudoior and Anglo-Norman soudeour. The Old French word, first recorded in the 12th century, is derived from sol or soud, Old French forms of Modern French sou. There is no longer a French coin named sou, but the meaning of sou alerts us to the fact that money is involved. Indeed, Old French sol referred to a coin and also meant "pay," and a soudoior was a man who fought for pay. This was a concept worth expressing in an era when many men were not paid for fighting but did it in service to a feudal superior. Thus soldier is parallel to the word mercenary, which goes back to Latin mercnnrius, derived from mercs, "pay," and meaning "working for pay." The word could also be used as a noun, one of whose senses was "a soldier of fortune."

What a horrible tragedy. I am sorry for the grief and pain this young man's family is going through. I am repulsed that his accident is being broadcasted on youtube. It makes me sad as well to see that there are people who are willing to risk their life for such a dangerous activity. What a senseless waste of a human life. My heart grieves with his family.
