It's really hard to put Slater's potential 10th World Title in context, particularly if you are under the age of say 25. After watching this year's event in France, I thought back to when I was standing on the beach in 1996 when Slater won the Rip Curl Pro Hossegor, beating Damien Hardman in some sizeable and chunky beach break.
