Buffetboy, That blog is from yesterday. She had a rough night the day before and was trying to repair the boat. That was before the EPIRBs went off. She is still in danger.

I disagree that she was ready. She left too late in the season. She could not operate without communication. She should have had general engine knowledge instead of having to have people talk her through the basics, she did not know basic celestrial navigation and could not sail without a GPS. That is not an experienced sailor. There should have been other prerequisites other than sailing skill. She was too dependent on technology and could not operate once there were problems with her electronics. Whether 16 or 18, she needed more experience. I would hate to think that she risked the odds for pursuit of a record versus waiting for a season. Her brother didn't try to navigate the Indian Ocean during the Fall-Winter. He even stopped and flew home for Christmas. Given her dependence on technology they should not have played games with the weather.
