The Surf News InsiderThe latest surf-related news from the coconut wireless. Edited by Chris Mauro. Recent Commentsbacksidefive says: "This is what I love about Kelly Slater...He's made a career out of doing what he loves but he doesn't put himself on top of the world just because he's the best there is and possibly one of the best overall athletes around. He has fun and just does his best, and even though he is the best, he's not arrogant about it. He has a great attitude and everyone should learn from him! Keep grinding hard Slater!" backsidefive says: "I think everyone likes winning more than losing. The important thing is to enjoy what you're doing....take it seriously but not so serious that you're walking around with a stick up your a$$." backsidefive says: "I agree. Surfing is way underrated in the US and Slater deserves more credit than the press gives him. He always has been and always will be a beast! Keep grinding hard Slater!" catherine gwen says: "This American can appreciate the talents of Slater... in fact I know quite a few Americans and one Canadian @ www.backsidefive.com that feel the same way. Grinding harder ;)" | < previous 210 of 357 next > The future of women's snowboarding looks very BrightWe got our first glimpse of women's snowboarding sensation Torah Bright when she carried Australia's flag into the Opening Ceremony in Vancouver on Friday. Bright was given the honor not just because she's one of Australia's most popular athletes at these Games, but because she comes from an accomplished sporting family. Sister Rowena represented Australia in Alpine skiing at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Brother Ben, a pro snowboarder, also rode for Australia's national team before he became Torah's full-time coach. All three have been calling Utah home for most of the last decade. But they still chase the endless winter, spending the summer months in Australia and New Zealand. Though she's friends with most of the U.S. snowboarding stars, Bright will be doing everything she can to stop the Americans from sweeping the women's halfpipe Thursday. She's the dangerous counterpunch to a stacked U.S. squad whose 1- 2- 3 combination includes Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter and Gretchen Bleiler. But as you'll see in the following video, there's much more to Torah Bright than snowboarding. And something tells us we're going to see a lot more of her after Thursday.
