"This is what I love about Kelly Slater...He's made a career out of doing what he loves but he doesn't put himself on top of the world just because he's the best there is and possibly one of the best overall athletes around. He has fun and just does his best, and even though he is the best, he's not arrogant about it. He has a great attitude and everyone should learn from him! Keep grinding hard Slater!"

  • Layne Beachley Charges "Ours" In Style

Layne Beachley is no slacker, not even in retirement. The seven time world champion is all over the media down in Australia this week, where she's already a legend of sport. This past Tuesday night Layne was honored as a co-winner at the Annual Women In Style Awards, a red carpet event hosted by InStyle Magazine down in Sydney. Layne was, as expected, pretty glammed out for the show, but according to Surfing Australia, when she got word of a pumping swell hitting the nearby beaches of Sydney, she promptly swapped her Alex Perry gown for a wetsuit, and showed up at dawn the next day at "Ours", the legendary surf break made famous by the Bra Boys and its ferocious power. Ours is, quite frankly, a lethal wave; a thick, meaty slab that breaks feet in front of exposed rocks that carve bodies and boards into little pieces.

Of course, neither the heavy locals or the huge swell attracting hordes of onlookers intimidated Layne. She impressed everyone there by pulling into a handful of enormous super-sucking pressure chambers, and looking good while doing it. Afterward, she told the press that the local Bra Boys were full of encouragement, adding, "I had an insane day."
