ERGO blogNothing is true | Shawn Hale Surf Expo Mini Ramp contestShawn recently was down in Orlando for Surf Expo, where he won some money placing at the best trick contest. But the next day Shawn qualified first and ended up taking home 3rd place and a thousand bucks! Congrats Shawn. Rip harder next time will ya. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Channels: Skate Gary Smith Goes to GermanyThe second day here jet leg had worn off but Mark Nickles had other plans for me instead of skating. He wanted me to do something very European so we went to a soocer game. It was Berlin against Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg is two hours from Berlin and the home of VW cars. The game winded up being tied 2 to 2 and then just ended which I found strange, but I will tell you this these people have pride in their team. Every time Berlin would score it turned into a huge party. Not a bad second day here I can't to see what's next. We woke up at a decent time (I guess in the skateboard world) and I got to try some German coffee it's a little stronger than home.Walking to get breakfast a saw a 12 foot wide tin vert ramp that looks more of a sliding board than a ramp. The first spot we went to was this buttery ass bank under a parking garage but after about 2omins we got the boot (somethings never change no mater where you are). We decided to check out this crazy cement mini that was between two buildings and that you need to know someone to skate. In the middle of the flat was a bullseye and if you fell in it you had to buy everyone skating a beer, lucky for me I just missed the bullseye. I saw more of the Berlin wall today and started to trip out that East and West Berlin were joined together less than 19 years ago. That night we headed out for a real German dinner and some beer. You can get lost for hours checking out all the sights and cool things. Yesterday was an all out mission. We took trains, trolleys, skateboards and even our chevro-legs to get everywhere. We skated some really cool spots and got kicked out of everywhere. The police got really mad at a train station where we were skating and wanted our passports. They were nice and let us go after a few. They even said they like skateboarding but someone called in. (I hear that all the time)We've met all sorts of skaters from everywhere at Stalin. There are some really talented skaters shredding up the place all hours of the day. From what I hear Stalin Square wont be around for long.. Too bad, it's a fun place to hang out and skate all day long. I stitched together a photo of the main area. ![]() ![]() ![]() Channels: Skate Wesley Desouza's look at the WQSHey everyone... boys and girls. Well I had this idea to start writing a journal about where I' (ve been... and all my travels for a while. Since ERGO has this new blog, I thought to myself... maybe I'll write a blog entry every couple weeks. So I emailed Pete (Pete Disprito... he' (s the man at ERGO, if you ever need to get shit done, just ask him... He' (ll sort you out!). He was like.... Lets do it! So we here we are 2 weeks into it. I haven' (t made an entry yet but this is the first one. Its called Wes' (s Briefcase. Its basically about me. No, no. I' (m just kidding. As you may or may not know I travel all year doing the WQS. (World Qualifying Series for you guys not in the know) and that' (s what this blog is all about. All the shit that happens on tour... The up' (s, the downs ,the winning ,the losing and pretty much anything you can think of. So, with that being said' ' ' . Enjoy!
There' (s so much that goes down on tour that mags, videos or the internet doesn' (t cover. And those things are.... well I honestly have no idea because there' (s live web cast all year at most of the events, so if you haven' (t been watching then turn on your lappy tomorrow and find out when the next event is. Now that' (s taken care of. ... Europe is always a make or break leg for the guys on the QS, there are so many events back to back and all of them are 5 and 6 stars. This leg of the tour really starts in Huntington Beach. If you are unfortunate enough to be for HB then this part of the leg doesn' (t really apply to you. But we are gone from around July 20th till Sep 15th, and usually with the same crew that you have been with all year long. Every year by the end of the leg you hear some pretty good stories about guys wanting to rip each other heads off. Think about 7 weeks with the same people.... you would feel the same way.... Anyways from Cali we go to Japan and form Japan to France from France to Portugal and finally when your bank account gets to zero you will find your self spending the last 2 weeks on tour in Spain.
So there you have it, that sums up the European leg of the WQS , Most of the boys I' (m with at the moment have not done that good this year except for 2, Dion atkins who finished second in Lacanau and Shaun Gossman who made quarters in Japan and = ninth in Hossoger.( big ups to Goz, U better fucking Qualify this year cozzy.) We are still not done yet with the Europe leg but with only one contest left I' (d figure I' (d go ahead and right the entry. (The truth is I' (m really bored and have nothing else to do.)
Nathaniel Curren has already clamied a spot on the WCT for next year along with Chris Davidson, Josh Kerr and Pat Gudang. Pat has been ripping all year and will go sick on the CT... that' (s 2 more for team America. Brett Simpo, Nate Yomans , and Autin Ware are pretty close as well and only need one or 2 more results. But I must say that the aussies have come on strong this leg and a lot of them are pretty close and on the border line. Yadin Nicol, might already be in but is still on the bubble, Drew Courtney, (who has been plugging away for the last 9 years finally looks like he' (s in, but we have to wait and see) Phil Macdonald, Shaun Gossman, Adam Melling, Nick Mushy, Leigh Sedz, and last but not least Adam Robertson. Good luck to all the boys and hope to see you on the tour next year. Well there you have it.... That' (s all I' (ve got for now. Talk to ya' (ll soon.
Oh and the photos that may or may not have loaded a lot of them are form Spain In these old World War II bunkers that we fond, they were pretty creepy underground pitch black dark tunnels. It was really scary but it pretty sick. A couple are from Portugal and the ones where everyone looks twisted is from a night out after the event in Portugal. -Wes
