The Captain of the French fishing vessel nearly died trying to save her. He fell overboard and it was difficult to get him back on the vessel. Would she still be a hero if he had been killed? Would you stack the odds against a safe voyage in order to beat a record? None of the other young sailors put themselves in the Indian Ocean in the winter. They avoided it and planned their voyages accordingly. Her own brother didn't. He even stopped and flew home for Christmas. They could have waited a season to improve her chances of completing the voyage safely. So those who say they didn't do this for a record are wrong, that is all they talked about at the beginning. And even though that record was lost along the way when she pulled into Capetown, she was even more in danger through that delay and put her further in the height of winter. Her family allowing her to go forward on the schedule to beat a record despite the outrage from the Yachting community was reckless. Going forward in CapeTown after the delay was even more reckless. Obviously, everyone else was right since she didn't make it and she could have been killed. And even more reckless is that someone else could have been killed trying to rescue her.
are you serious ? Her parents are at fault if she gets killed or hurt. She is a kid and you dont let a 16 year old kid out of your site. You may let them take your car on the weekend to go out with some friends not let them go around the world in a small boat!!!!!
Yes, I am serious. I have been in social services for 16 years. I worked as a social worker in child protective services for 4 of those years. I worked as an Adult Protective Services for several years as well as supervising social workers. If the person who alleging had something to hide we could tell even when we did not have proof (those were the worst cases b/c we could not prove them, but we knew). :(
I believe that the Suderland parents wanted their child to succeed. I believe that they love Abby as a daughter, sister, granddaughter with their heart and soul without any conditions. I believe that they are a strong family with loving values that many people wish they were a part of. I wish people could walk with social workers in child protective services one day to see the real horror of physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, and neglect of children before they condemn....... :(
