krautdog, you said the right things, but unfortunately most people are too full of fear to take a chance to grow stronger as individuals. I understand you, and also I left a comment on the blog and it reads as follows: an apt reply from krautdog: "absolutely! ...and let us not forget the poor parenting of the rescue workers! How they must have failed their children to have raised young adults with such heroics in them they pursued so dangerous of a profession....for shame!!!!" I admire this ironical and intended sarcastic criticism...I guess some of us tread a fine line...In the depth of our truth-delving selves we may ask ourselves should we or shouldn't we...should we pursue our life's passion or should we reside in the safe harbor? We sometimes stick our necks out...for some of us adventure delineates the defining character of life, we breathe adventure from the diaphragm of our determined souls, and taking the seemingly small yet necessary risks to our own lives becomes acceptable to us in that regard...because if we do not follow our passion in life we are, in essence and in effect, already dead. By the way, in the above paragraph, I have edited my original posting. After reading what I had originally written I saw some mistakes...(you know how it is on a blog...it's never "right" and it most always becomes misconstrued! ) From one man who is patient enough to hear the bleat of sheep to another...kudos!...You kept your cool even though you were misunderstood and wrongly criticized by sophomoric minds. You know?
Kind of like all those soldiers and other military who defeated the Germans and Japanese during the second world war. Their parents must have been horrible to raise those who risked their lives to defeat those who chose to kill so many to advance their own cause. Maybe it's parents like those who we owe so much to. Parents who raise children who are willing to die to preserve freedom. We need more parents like Abbeys. They are heroes also. The future of the free world lies in parents like Abbeys. not overlooking your sarcasm, the rescuers were adults making a decision on their chosen livlihood. abby, on the other hand, is a minor, and her parents didn't step up and say "no" when they had the opportunity to stop her from doing something that everyone knew was dangerous before she left CA.
Yea, they raised a hero who is willing to take a chance and do something meaningful with her life. Far better that than raising a child who will go through life depending on everyone to take care of them on welfare.
